Yeah but I like all the stuff I have on my computer. Lots and lots of documents, many of which I've written with my own little fingers. Hundreds of hours of it, in fact.

Soooooo.......it is common for pregnant women to start snoring. Amanda started snoring. I didn't think much about it although I wasn't getting much sleep.

However, I woke up holding something wet, thinking the bed was really really hard. It was a paintbrush, as I had fallen asleep while lying down painting skirting boards and nodded off. I still didn't make the connection and thought I had some sort of flu. Then the penny dropped.

So Amanda had a night in a sleep clinic and she was waking up 90 times an hour from sleep apnea. She now has a CPAP breathing machine and mask and sleeps normally.

I asked the specialist if oxygen deprivation was a problem for the unborn twins? The specialist said that no one really knows as you can't do these experiments on humans. Fair enough, but I was very concerned.

Anyhow, the problem is solved with the CPAP machine.

Are they sure she wasn't waking up every 30 seconds because she had wires strapped all over her?

She did have to wear a patchbay to plug all the wires into. She looked like a 1970's music synthesizer.

However, before that, she really wasn't sleeping. There was no rhythm to her snoring and she kept half waking up gasping. I was simply awake all the time watching and listening.

Four years of sleep out of the window - check.
Plus eight years of anxiety - check.
Then four years of panic - check.
Two more years of shredded nerves - check
Then three/four years of expensive peace - check.
Then decades more of anxiety - check.
Don't worry, Matthew - it's all worth it :D

That must be a huge relief to you both. Sleep apnea is not something that should go untreated, especially during pregnancy. I'll bet she feels better in general now that she's getting a decent night's sleep. (And you probably do too!)

When my daughter was about 2 months old, she was still waking up every hour or so. I was frazzled, needless to say. The pediatrician recommended no solid food until 6 months, but Jacquie was waking up hungry. I finally called my mom who advised me to dissolve about a teaspoon of dry cereal in the bottle. It worked like a charm; she actually slept 6 hours.

I'm nearly positive the pediatrician was childless. She was one of those women who's makeup and hair is always perfect, dressed to the nines, with quite long, perfectly polished fingernails. Nor was it the only time she was wrong. She coldly told me that letting Jacquie sleep on her back was dangerous; she might spit up in her sleep and choke on it. Turns out, SIDS is frequently caused by the infant sleeping on its belly.

Naturally, I found a different pediatrician after that.

Hey, those were my numbers too!

Make sure she keeps using it. It works wonders as long as you use it. My brother gave his up because it was "too loud" for him, but the noise is essentially a white noise generator and actually helps me sleep.

My only problem is that the mask messes up my moustache. Hopefully Amanda doesn't experience that problem.

I've already got a "million dollar eye". They asked if they could have it when I die. (I told them I was a whole body donor.)

I'm only worried that they'll recommend brain surgery and somebody will look at the CT scan. :worried:

In all seriousness, what's grinding my gears today...
My dad's returning from Arizona tomorrow. He needs oxygen. I phoned the company here and got an answering service somewhere in the South. No one called me back. I called again; same deal. Third call; same deal. Meanwhile, my head is throbbing from anger and frustration. :burn:

My dad had to call their office in Chandler to get put through to their office in western MA with the doctor's order. Finally, someone called me back and the supplies were delivered late this afternoon. For a company that delivers oxygen canisters and supplies, they're not overly concerned with their patients.

Come to find out, the company has horrible reviews. Everyone had the same experience I did. How they're still in business is beyond me.
