do you swallow a lot of saliva ?
ate a lot of junk food / taco hell - noticed my body was trying to compensate my stupidity by generating a lot of saliva .
I often think of my first contact with a shrink - asked about side effects - shrink said dry mouth like it was no big deal .
I think shutting down the salivary glands is slow death .

You mostly loose your saliva glands during radio therapy for cancers of the throat and mouth.
Here are the drugs

If you eat a lot of salt, you may salivate a lot later.
Also, if your stomach is trying to purge itself of something, heavy saliva production can be a precursor to vomiting.

Re: do you swallow a lot of saliva ?
They already have artificial saliva products on the market: https://www.fda.gov/ForConsumers/Consum ... 254273.htm
I've tried two forms, a gel (ick) and a spray (gross). Neither of them was very pleasant, so I just drink water now -- that seems to activate my saliva glands rather nicely.
Your doctor or dentist may recommend oral rinses and moisturizers, or prescribe an artificial saliva.
Also called saliva substitutes, artificial salivas are regulated by FDA as medical devices. “Unlike drugs, artificial salivas have no chemical action,” says Susan Runner, D.D.S., chief of FDA’s dental devices branch. “Their action is mechanical. They moisten and lubricate the mouth but do not stimulate the salivary glands to make saliva.”
While not a cure, artificial salivas can provide short-term relief of the symptoms of dry mouth. “They can also help minimize discomfort after an oral procedure,” says Runner.
Artificial salivas come in a variety of forms, including rinses, sprays, swabs, gels, and tablets that dissolve in the mouth. Some are available by prescription only; others can be bought over-the-counter.
FDA has also approved several prescription drugs to relieve dry mouth caused by certain medical treatments or conditions, such as Sjögren's syndrome and radiation for head or neck cancer.

I don't know about saliva but spicy food can cause you to produce more mucus.

I have chronic dry mouth because:
1. I have Sjøgren's Syndrome, and
2. Cannabis is the medication I use for chronic pain.
To counter it, I drink a LOT of water and use products designed to help. Biotene claims its products contain enzymes that correct oral pH. It's also important to use dental products that are antimicrobial, like mouthwash with chlorhexidine.

Same for my wife... but unfortunately, no cannabis available here. Back when I was travelling on business, I smuggled Biotene...
Now I, on the other hand have a plentiful supply of spittle, and when not in polite company and of course only when in the wild, may be observed flinging it unreservedly - just to water the plants of course. But when I must, I aswallers it down.

I actually took the time to learn to 'spit like a guy.' It makes the process much easier and faster when it absolutely needs to be done. Without dribbling.TJrandom wrote:Now I, on the other hand have a plentiful supply of spittle, and when not in polite company and of course only when in the wild, may be observed flinging it unreservedly - just to water the plants of course. I don't think I've ever done the RnF. I tend to keep Kleenices all over the place, including in my car. And I'm religious about hand-washing. We used to call those nose goblins (or possibly nose gobblings, in reference to people who like to gobble them -- I never saw it written down), but then Ren & Stimpy made this cartoon and everyone stopped:

Nose Oysters sounds like a dish at a hipster raw bar. "Served on the half shell with mignonette sauce."

"Snite" must be the ones that clog your nose while you're trying to sleep. From Middle English snot, snotte, from Old English ġesnot, *snott, from Proto-Germanic *snuttuz, from the same base as snout. Related also to snite.
