If the red house has blue shutters and the green house has red shutters, what's this section for?

Word Game Apps for your Smartphone

Postby Nikki Nyx » Sat Aug 05, 2017 7:54 pm

A few out-of-the-ordinary word games I've enjoyed... All four of these are free to download and play, and all of them provide a free daily puzzle, plus a starter pack of puzzles.

Red Herring (by Blue Ox Technologies Ltd)
Image
You're presented with 16 words. The object is to drag them into the first three columns, organizing them by category. Each round includes four "red herrings," words that don't belong in any category. The categories might be obvious, like "countries in Asia," or more challenging, like "water ___," or extremely subtle, like "anagrams of breakfast foods." There are three difficulty levels:
• Deep Water - just gives you the 16 words with no category names
• Smooth Sailing - puts some of the words into their categories
• Safe Harbor - puts some of the words into their categories AND shows the category names
Available for iPhone and Android devices. Free daily puzzles, plus the past 30 days worth of free dailies remains unlocked. Puzzle packs are 99¢ for 50 puzzles, and you get free bonus puzzle packs periodically.

Bonza (by Minimega Pty Ltd)

Sort of a combination of a crossword puzzle, a word search, and trivia, you're presented with the fragments of a puzzle and a categorical clue. Assemble the puzzle into crossword format to solve. Will Shortz has given Bonza rave reviews. Available for iPhone and Android devices. Free daily puzzles, plus you get one free starter pack. Puzzle packs are 99¢ for 30, and a bundle of four packs is $2.99.

Bonza National Geographic (by Minimega Pty Ltd)
Played the same as Bonza, but with all Nat Geo themed categories. Available for iPhone and Android devices. Free daily puzzles, plus you get one free starter pack. Puzzle packs are 99¢ for 30, and a bundle of four packs is $2.99.

7 Little Words (by Blue Ox Technologies Ltd)
Image
You're presented with seven clues, the number of letters each answer contains, and a number of word fragments. Tap the fragments to assemble the words that solve the seven clues. Available for iPhone and Android devices. Free daily puzzles, plus you get one free starter pack. There's a subscription option, and puzzle packs are available to purchase individually in a range of sizes and prices.
...it used to be so simple, once upon a time.
Because the universe was full of ignorance all around and the scientist panned through it like a prospector crouched over a mountain stream, looking for the gold of knowledge among the gravel of unreason, the sand of uncertainty, and the little whiskery eight-legged swimming things of superstition.
