A Monument to Courage is Being Planned
Money is being collected for a bronze sculpture containing statues of Edward Snowden, Julian Assange, Chelsea (Bradley) Manning, and an empty chair symbolizing the desire for another champion of truth and free speech to come forward.

Which one will address the empty chair when it's unveiled, the Good, the Bad, or the Ugly?

What about Marsha Coleman-Adebayo? Her whistleblowing eventually led to the passing of the No-FEAR Act.
Or Sibel Edmonds? An FBI whistleblower who's been gagged by the States Secret Privilege, and who is the founder of the National Security Whistleblowers Coalition (NSWBC).
Or is it only "courageous" if you either go to prison or run away?

Courage is facing fear, so, if there was nothing to be afraid of, there was no courage. In other words - maybe.

Regarding Sibel Edmonds, she has a new book out:

This review is from: The Lone Gladio: A Novel (Kindle Edition)
...I read the book because I assumed that Sibel Edmunds was using fictitious characters and situations to tell what she knows about the truth behind the real Operation Gladio and other highly classified (and criminal) shenanigans of this country's intelligence/defense agencies. Truth that she would be surely indicted for revealing openly. My problem with the book is that I'm not always sure where the fiction leaves off and truth begins. But I have always believed Sibel. Everything she has said about her experience with the FBI has the ring of truth in it. I suppose that's how this book has to be read - listen for the ring of truth in each event and each character depicted....
Ugh, I hate fiction when people expect to find fact in it somewhere but they can't be told where.

How about we erect a statue for people who actually fought for free speech like Thomas Paine and George Washington against an actual monarchy with an army.
Edward Snowden didn't fight for free speech. Just for clarification his "fight" was for privacy and better reflects the 4th amendment. His leak is justified because Congress had approved the NSA 15 years prior to the leak and it would have continued in secret, with secret funding, without the leak. The tragedy is knowing this person is living in Russia to avoid US. prosecution for something Congress did illegally and nobody cared during the highlight of this mess. And the NSA is still being funded, now openly, and has been merged with private telecom business' as a way to "deter corruption".
Julian Assange wasn't an American and fought to expose American secrets as a hacker, so {!#%@} him. Not impressed.
Bradley Manning is a grey case. Technically when you join the army you sign a contract saying you are now government property and sign-up is completely voluntary. But if you come across something unconstitutional I'm able to imagine the internal conflict this must have on the individual sworn into office. The act was without a doubt very brave, but I'm not sure if the leaks actually revealed unconstitutional practices. I'm not exactly familiar with what Manning leaked.

The only one I'd call courageous is Snowden.
Chelsea Manning was a security risk blackmail victim, and Assange is the blackmailer.

Well, renaming the entire U.S. Georgia is OK with me as long as the numbers of the Interstate Highways remain the same so I know where I am going.

So that means the taxpayers are off the hook for the gender reassignment operation. Right?

It's not a pardon, it's a commutation.
Manning was sentenced to 35 years in prison, the longest sentence for a leak in U.S. history. White House officials stressed that Manning took responsibility for her actions and received an excessive sentence. A pardon exonerates the person and erases the conviction; a commutation leaves the conviction in place, but reduces the sentence. The conviction stays on her record.

I never believed the rape charges, modulo that I'm not familiar enough with Swedish law to know exactly what they mean by rape.

Assange has been holed up at Ecuador's embassy in London to avoid extradition to answer questions about sex-crime allegations from two women....
Because rape isn't a concern of the U.N. human rights system?

Re: A Monument to Courage is Being Planned
Assange was never charged with rape. The {!#%@} Swedes only said that he was being investigated with regard to the possibility of rape. In other words; it's a case of legal maneuvering and BS.
However, the two women involved never wanted to charge him with rape because the sex they were involved in was consensual.
The two original charges that were dropped in April of 2017 were; sexual molestation and unlawful coercion and had to do with the fact that the Assange either did not wear a condom or that the condom was broken during sex.
In addition, one of the women now wants nothing to do with the case and told that crazy Swedish prosecutor Marianne Ny that she will not testify against Assange.
Of course, everybody knows that deus ex machina behind all of this is the Evil Empire. The big ass kissers of the Empire are just doing their {!#%@} duty. Getting the guy for the Empire using all kinds of legal pretenses.
Even the UN Tribunal for Human Rights said so by declaring that what Britain and Sweden are doing is illegal and arbitrary and is violation of Assange's human, civil and political rights.
Sweden has a long history of servitude and ass kissing. When the Nazis were still winning the WWII they would supply the Nazi Germany with ball bearings and steel and probably send them Christmas cards congratulating them on their great victory at Stalingrad.
Britain is fairly new at it but what can you say, the talent is all there.

No it means Julian Assange can no longer become an Australian senator ( You can't have dual citizenship) and has ended his aims at entering Australian politics. As he is no longer in control of Wikileaks I imagine he will quickly disappear from the world stage .

Julian Assange / Traitor
Trump-Russia inquiry is told Nigel Farage may have given Julian Assange data
https://www.theguardian.com/politics/20 ... sange-data
"Simpson told the committee – which is privy to classified US intelligence – that it would be possible to confirm how often Farage had visited Assange through a routine inquiry."
The Americans are now finding out what Australia has known for a long time. Assange works for the Russians. However it is up to the UK to determine how much Brexit propaganda was pushed by Wikileaks.

Of course Julian Assange and Nigel Farage aren't the only traitors! Former CIA employee Edward Snowden, who actually lives in Russia is a traitor, and as you've said many times, I get my talking points from Russia, and the whole Trump regime is in cahoots with Russia, and Justin Raimondo at AntiWar.com who hates the US foreign policy and people at the Ron Paul Institute for Peace are traitors to the American cause, and who else is on the CIA disinformation list of traitors?
And yes, I know and will stipulate that you are not an American citizen.

Tom.
I think most of us here are fine with being critical to the US' doings in the world. What Matthew highlights, with his usual inclusive charm, is that you seem to neglect that other countries are up to much of the same games. That your anti-US establishment fervour seems to blind you from equally problematic sides about other countries' dealings. I find it weird that you cant even acknowledge or answer Matthew's point about SVR/GRU. If you really are the libertarian you profess to be, it shouldn't be hard damning other nations' versions of CIA and use of force when it suits them.
Peace
