Snatching guns.

The recent terrorist event in Liege, Belgium, illustrates the problem with too many guns.

The moron Trump, corrupted by money from the National Rifle Association, and the National Rifle Association itself, corrupted by money from gun manufacturers, both claim that the way to stop mass shootings is to make sure that people everywhere carry guns, to use to shoot the nasty bastards.

But the two policewomen murdered by the terrorist in Belgium were both carrying guns, when he was not. The end result is that they were dead anyway, and the terrorist was running loose firing those guns, putting bullets into 4 more policemen, who survived due to pure luck.

If Americans en masse run around carrying guns, as the corrupt people above wish, how many more will die due to those guns being seized by the nasty arseholes ?

Hey, without all those good guys with guns you wouldn't get the incredible know-how and innovation that Americans are known for.

Like seizing on the opportunity to profit off of scared parents by selling them bulletproof blankets and backpacks for their kids.

Or, such great innovations like having only one entrance to schools, making sure good guy teachers are all armed with guns, bats or even rocks.

Oh and I know you have a big hate on for Trump, but this problem existed well before Trump no matter what party or any combination of government control there is. All Dems? Didn't matter nothing is done. All Republicans? Doesn't matter nothing gets done. A mix of congress, senate and president? Doesn't matter nothing gets done.

Better they snatch my gun than gun my snatch, amiright?
Seriously, we're {!#%@}.
But don't count out the next generations of up and incoming politicos changing things. When they fear being another statistic, when they bury enough classmates, they will change it. I hope the solution isn't dystopic but I really believe in them.

What would be a dystopic solution?===I mean other than what is effectively the status quo which is arming everyone?

The exact opposite: Government thugs kicking down doors and taking them comes to mind.

Buy-back programs seem to be a good solution but that doesn't guarantee removal of the threat. So, yeah, we're {!#%@}.

No reason to do that. If guns were made illegal, they could be confiscated concurrently with other duties. Of course, illegal gun "dealers" should be targeted.

Buy-back is appropriate in order to sell the program. I'd make it time limited...a number of years after passage of the new law. No reason it should not work ......."over time".....not over night.

In the main though, whether it would remove enough guns or not, it would do much to change the "Gun Culture" mind set that is a good part of the problem.

............and I am in favor of removing guns from the cops too......for all the same reasons.

Stronger gun control will work in the end, but it will take time. There are too many guns in the USA right now, and criminals will not give them up in a hurry. So it would be a slow erosion of gun ownership and a concommittant slow erosion of gun violence along with it.

Gun control always requires years of enforcement before any real gains are seen. The federal assault weapon ban in the US in 1994 was repealed after only 10 years, but it was still long enough to see some reductions in their use in the commission of crimes, although 10 years wasn't long enough for the full effects to be seen. (The availability of so-called "copycat weapons" didn't help either.)

There is no good reason why guns carried by law enforcement shouldn't be equipped with a biometric lock or something similar as a matter of course.

Absolutely right, EM. So what is the BAD reason they do not do it ?

I believe the manufacturers are cowed by the NRA and afraid of loss of mkt.

There's a very good reason, money.

I would guess that dead and wounded cops are more expensive.

Disposable people are disposable.

Probably a wimp factor too - since it presupposes that someone could take your gun away from you, and cops just would not stand for that image.

Dead cops don't blush.

Yes, but dead cops don't make the purchase decision.

No, penurious civilian officials do.

More likely the other way around. The NRA gets most of its income (many tens of millions each year) from gun makers, and dances to the manufacturers tune.

That's the way I understand it. Before the money spigot was turned on the NRA was funded primarily by its members. That's a minor item now.

OK, but the NRA still runs the propaganda and creates the publicity.

A mere puppet. Watch NRATV. Every talking point the gunners use either originates on shows produced by the gun companies or financed by them.

Gun grabber in Japan!
A 21-year-old suspect killed a policeman in the city of Toyama on Tuesday after stabbing the officer, stealing his gun, shooting him and then fatally gunning down a security guard at a nearby elementary school, police said.

They are all Ninjas in Japan.
It's not racist if it is a compliment.

Now here is how the US should do it... ;)
Teachers held brooms and sticks as they guarded the entrances to the gym, according to the school.
