I can't see anything wrong with it: if she pulls the trigger, the recoil will break the bones in the hand/wrist, thus keeping us safe from her trying to shoot again

I had at least 3 teachers who I'm sure would have shot me if they were armed. I wasn't the class clown but I was a little {!#%@} at times.
Hell no! No guns in the classroom.

We don't no guns at our schools
We don't need no armed patrols
No packing pistols in the classroom
Teachers leave your guns at home

That single arm aim is likely to kill surrounding people while the powerful bullet is likely to pass thru and kill others in the hallway or adjacent classroom. (Plus Aztexan has already graduated, I think. :) )

Plus... finger isn`t on the trigger. Safety is probably still on. The blue gun is probably plastic. These `teachers` are druggies - see their glazed over eyes and the pills on the desk.

The only reason people talk about militarizing schools is to distract from tougher gun laws. The more Republicans fake concern an say they support more guards at schools, the less they have a admit that they don't give a {!#%@} either way.

I used to daydream about shooting Americans when they invaded Canada. But then I always died at the end. Like most good Russians would!

[I could be wrong about that, I've never seen that movie. But I heard there was a Russkie movie where the hero-soldier guy is shot in the back by the traitor-American at the end, and that linked-to movie was my best guess after a brief innernets search.]

You stop active shooters by shooting, moving and communicating. How will these armed teachers communicate with police responding to a school shooting to deconflict movements and avoid fratricide? How will they let the police know they aren't the shooter?

Will these teachers get training beyond the pathetic excuse for qualifications required to get a carry permit? If a teacher were to discharge a weapon it would be in close proximity to innocent children bystanders. Will they have to demonstrate marksmanship skills indicating they could safely do that? What about weapon retention training. When I went through FLETC I had to fight off a guy in a Redman suit trying to steal my gun. Will the teachers train and practice that so a student can't get control of a weapon.

How about we figure out how to get more police in school who do this stuff for a living? If you arm teachers, your choices are to have woefully unqualified armed people around children or you have unrealistic training requirements levied on people who already have significant continuing education expectations to stay current as teachers.

Arming the teachers is estimated to make 500,000 teachers with guns. Now, mass shootings (not all in schools) average fewer than 300 deaths each year. School shootings are 100 to 300 deaths per year. So to make arming the teachers worth while, we would have to see a reduction of something like up to 300 deaths per year.

Would we ? Seriously unlikely.

1. Imagine the reaction of the ratbag kids. The worst guys in the classroom would set out to find where the gun was kept and 'liberate ' it. How many extra deaths when those nasty guys go to work ?

2. NOT ALL teachers are sane and non violent. With 500,000 teachers packing guns, how many will use them in ways they are not supposed to ?

So with 500,000 extra guns in schools around the country, will the number of gun deaths be less than the current 100 to 300, or will it be more - a lot more !

teachers do not want extra people in school - because they are ashamed of what a lousy job they are doing .
break that problem - stop blaming the government - parents need to be in the schools .
for discipline you have to have more adults .
one teacher is helpless .
guns are not the problem or answer - parents and grand parents in the school would help .
let say a grandmother is in a school and some thug insults her - 2 security guards beat the blank out of him/her.
judge throws lawsuit out . first step to a better world

Remote control electric dog collars are the answer, locked around the students necks, and with the teacher holding the remote.

Mandatory leotard-like uniforms for each student across the country, each grade represented by a different color.
No backpacks
Cameras at every hallway with manned monitors so they know exactly where the shooter is.

Seriously, we're not going to make change. A probable solution is making schools like fortresses. Whatever the fix the politicos come up with, it's going to cost. If we're really serious about protecting our children at school, we should get the money from our military budget. A fraction of what we spend on defense could be used to fortify every single school in the country.

fact is a lot of parents ( 69.6% ) do not give a blank - school is just a place to dump them.
but they love to blame everyone else , and make demands .

Arming teachers will increase, not reduce the death toll, and will do nothing for those shootings that occur outside schools. The answer is more effective gun control.

Any two seniors could wrestle a gun from a teacher, or the teacher misplaces it or forgets to lock it or shoots the wrong student or drops it causing it to go off or the gun misfires when needed or the teacher flips out and uses it or is shot by first responders or forgets it on the day it's needed or is the first casualty thus rendering it useless or is away from work on the day it's needed or freezes up or...

One solution that could actually be acceptable to the population, cheap, and doable would be to remove problem kiddies from the "gen pop". They get sent to half way houses for reformatories and earn their way back in by good behavior. It fits the "punish them" mindset that is very prevalent. The general school system would immediately become better with no other changes need to be made. The whole program would work to the degree those half way houses were funded, staffed etc. Or ..... make them all a ROTC training course and start another war. Got to do something with all those bodies.

Massively increasing the number of guns in the hands of teachers will certainly lead to one thing: way more teacher suicides.
