Hawaii - new laws

Postby TJrandom » Tue Jun 28, 2016 8:42 am

Good on Hawaii for some sensible new laws.

Hawaii becomes the first US state to place gun owners in a federal database

Mr Ige also signed two more gun control measures into law: one that disqualifies people with stalking and sexual assault convictions from owning guns, and another that requires gun owners to give up their firearms if they are diagnosed with “a significant behavioural, emotional, or mental disorder."

so they can disarm people known to have guns....
Science Fundamentalism...is exactly what happens when there’s a significant, perceived ideological threat to one’s traditions and identity.

Are you suggesting that Angel may have benefitted from laws that imposed restrictions on her parents?

Traffic laws. For example, there is a law against jaywalking so you don't get someone's car dirty with your blood. In every country in the world you get a traffic ticket for that except America where the police will shoot you.

It's too bad no one benefitted from making slavery illegal.

A lot of "Northern" concerns made money off that, before the ACW. The majority of slavers owned by American interests had sailed from places like Boston and New York. The Southerners didn't want more slaves introduced as it reduced the value of their "stock".

Actually, not so here in Japan - where the pedestrian has the right of way - everywhere. Since pedestrians are not licensed to walk – there is nothing to issue a ticket against. You splatter your car with a baby thrown by his mother from the side of the road, or from an overpass - and you go to jail. (OK, maybe a stretch, but not by far.)

Not so long ago, a driver ran over a man who was lying in the middle of the road at night in a blizzard. He was only released from pre-trial detention once it was determined that the man had already died from exposure.
