We saw Assassin's Creed, in 4dx – a wasted investment. Could`a eaten out at a swank restaurant and enjoyed a burnt dog meat steak and felt better about it than we did leaving the theater. It was a spur of the moment decision – storm approaching, just enough time to bail and get there, so off we went. Should have taken the time to check rotten tomatoes – as they were spot on. Needless plot complexity and CGI plus an intentional(?) `haze` that made viewing difficult.

The biographical movie about Jacques Cousteau, L'Odyssée.

Twas good. It only skimmed across the surface, but if you ever enjoyed one of his films, you'll enjoy this.

Interesting Wiki article about movie sensorship history: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Motion_Picture_Production_Code

The entire document was written with Catholic undertones and stated that art must be handled carefully because it could be "morally evil in its effects" and because its "deep moral significance" was unquestionable.[29] It was initially decided to keep the Catholic influence on the Code secret.[35] A recurring theme was "that throughout, the audience feels sure that evil is wrong and good is right".

I saw Transformers: Age of Extinction, for the second time. Like Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, it had the most beautiful robots ever. The movie is stupid and flawed. However, the visuals are exquisite. Attached to this post are some screenshots I made. They're clearer than the ones I made for Revenge of the Fallen. I guess the technology for the computer graphics in film got better. Like in Revenge of the Fallen, the director (Michael Bay) loves explosions and omnipresent light effects. The design of Lockdown's spacecraft is obviously influenced by Giger's art.

Recommendation: See it if you like giant robots and cool graphics and don't mind a very flawed plot.

Alien Outpost

This iz another army guyz vs alien invaderz movie. I'v seen at least 5 over the last 10 yirz and like the rest, its OK. In fact, the quality & entertainment level in this subjenre are so consistently OK that it made me think 'wut if the brag blurbz on the boxez were onest?'

The blurbz are alwayz "Best picture of the year!" - Rolling Stone, or "Greatest invasion sifi EVER!" - NY Times or "2 thumz way up!" -Ebert & Roeper. They can almost alwayz find sum reviewer to say sumthing that woud lead you to believ its a great movie. If therez no such blurb, then its usually so bad that it went strate to DVD and the 5$ basket at Walmart.

So for Alien Outpost it shoud be "It's OK!" - Rolling Stone, "Not a total waste uv time!" - Sifi Quarterly, "Worth a look!" - DVD Review

Its rated at IMDB at 4.8, wich woud make you think its bad, but it iznt.

The Babadook

Good horror movie. The popup book iz the best creepy factor I'v seen in a long time. Seemz like it coud hav a sequel that woud be even better.

Room

Good movie about a long term abduction, possibly inspired by the resent real events. But I had a problem with it that mite be a spoiler, so only read this if youv seen it or dont care.

Spoiler:
The actor playing the boy looks like a girl! For 90% uv the movie, I'm thinking it wuz that the mom sed it wuz a boy to keep her captor from molesting her. And then she kept it up after they were free to gradually brake the newz to her that she iz a girl. So I keep expecting there to be a big sene in wich the family sits down to explain why she'd been told she wuz a boy, or that sumwun not in on the secret woud spill the beanz. Uv course, it never happenz. Even az the credits begin to roll, I'm wondering why they got a girl to play the boy until I see 'Jacob Trembly'. My apolojyz to Jacob, I'm sure he will grow up to be a hansom and manly man, and he iz alredy an exellent actor, but he iz the most effeminate boy I hav ever seen.

You know, there's something that really bugs me about the original Ghost in the Shell anime. It's right in the opening sequence. The Major, totally and cold-heartedly, assassinates the {!#%@} out of a peaceful diplomat standing in full right of the law.

The only explanation offered is because it was easier than deporting him.

I mean, wouldn't putting a diplomat on a plane and saying, "Don't come back", be easier to explain to the embassy than deploying a crack squad of expensive cyborgs to explode his head when he was already under custody of the police?

Anime logic. *shrug*

The anime had awful dubbing, stilted dialog. The live action was visually much better, but they changed the ending and missed the whole point of the original.

A Silent Voice (Koe no Katachi)

Anime, drama, comedy, romance.

4/5 stars.

#2 movie in Japan 2016. I loved it. The animation, music, and story are all beautifully touching. It's about a deaf girl who gets bullied at school by this guy, but he realises the error of his ways, and later in highschool when they meet again they fall in love.

There are tears and chuckles, and I recommend this to anyone of any age able to read. Or speak Japanese. (I had a Japanese couple behind me in the cinema, and it was fun listening to their reactions too. They were really involved.)

So, why did I knock off a star? SPOILERS BELOW!

Spoiler:
I wanted more romance. In typical anime fashion, there was no resolution. They're all friends again, have a chuckle, credits roll.

Meanwhile, deaf girl is desperately in love with ex-bully, she's tried to tell him but he's too stupid to understand and is completely oblivious. The end. No sequel for you!

Gah. Like I needed a crystal ball to guess that would happen. Seriously, Hollywood "artistic licence" needs to {!#%@} right off. Some stories, you just don't {!#%@} with.

I usually watch anime with the original voice actors and read the subtitles. Sometimes it's fun to watch the dubs and compare the translations. I think the dubs try to focus too much on the mouth movements, and often lose the whole meaning of the line, and even plot. But sometimes the dub voice actors are better than the original.

The original anime movie is one case where I think the dub nailed the character's voices.

I'm going to see it today.

Tone, yes. Flow, not so much. It's a hair's breadth away from a stutter at times. I'll take original language with subs any time. Especially in movies like "Interstellar".

90 yirz too early.

My main beef is, the ship is dumb as {!#%@}. The bartender is smarter. If you're designing an automated colony ship, surely you'd have it wake up an emergency response crew if it ran into difficulty? And for that reason you'd have re-hibernation facilities onboard.

I agree. Also, thered be mekanic and doctor droidz, not just waiterz and cleaning rodent droidz. Obviously that woudnt work with the story.

Yes. It was just godawful in every way. I have nothing good to say about it. Just think about all the different ways a movie can totally suck, and GitS has it all.

In contrast, Logan was {!#%@} awesome. I truly did not expect it to be so {!#%@} awesome.

I'm very sad tho', that we won't see any Deadpool/Wolverine interaction. A movie with them as partners would have been hilarious!

Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) kills Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds) in X-Men Origins: Wolverine

I saw this film and didn't know who Deadpool was, so I didn't pick up that Deadpool came back with his own film

Had the misfortune to see Kong: Skull Island recently.

The special effects were stellar, of course. We are well on the way to the day when CGI will be indistinguishable from reality. But the script of this thing was apparently written by a ten year old.

The gap between production values and script quality keeps widening every year.

Also, weren't there supposed to be lots of different monsters on Skull Island? In the original, it was full of all kinds of dinosaurs. In this one it is Kong and just one other kind of beastie.

The worst part of the movie was the cliche military stuff. Guys spouting macho crap while thrusting guns at each other. All kinds of "lock 'n load" tactical approaches (wherever they happened to be going) jabbing guns in random directions. Sadly, I guess the focus groups are calling for this kind of junk these days.

Why would you even?
This being was produced using the same process as other beings, and therefore, may contain traces of nuts.
