I've come up with a set of rules that describe our reactions to technologies:
Spoiler:
1. Anything that is in the world when you’re born is normal and ordinary and is just a natural part of the way the world works.
2. Anything that's invented between when you’re fifteen and thirty-five is new and exciting and revolutionary and you can probably get a career in it.
3. Anything invented after you're thirty-five is against the natural order of things.

Saw The Conjuring 2. It's a perfectly fine movie. I liked the previous one better.

I found myself cringing to a few things, though, because I'm familiar with the cases in this movie and the previous one. They were hoaxes. This movie treated them as real. That's perfectly fine, since it just means that in the universe depicted in the movies, these spirits and whatnot do exist.

Spoiler:
Unfortunately, the real life Warrens were frauds, and one of their appearances on a talk show was used in the movie. It doesn't really work. Ed Warren was very confrontational in reality, and was also in the movie. However, in the movie, everything he's doing is real. In reality, it was fraudulent. His confrontationality was understandable in reality, but within the movie, I find it less understandable.

Recommendation: See it if you liked the previous movie.

Although this thread is about NEW movies, I'm going to mention that I just viewed D.W.Griffith's 1916 silent film "Intolerance". I recommend it to anyone thinking about harming another person... not because it will cause them to be more tolerant... but because for three and a half hours at least they will be distracted.

I saw X-Men: Apocalypse this weekend; it was fine. The first 30 minutes were pretty bad but I enjoyed it after that.

If I were to rank the franchise from best to worst it would be a five-way tie for first between X-Men, X2, First Class, and Days of Future Past, and Deadpool which are all fantastic, Apocalypse and The Wolverine which are both fine, The Last Stand which isn't good but isn't as bad as people make it out to be, and Origins: Wolverine which is unwatchable garbage.

For comparison, I'd rank the other superhero movies this year Deadpool, Civil War, Apocalypse, Batman v Superman.

Fair enough. I haven't seen Intolerance. I've watched his "Birth of a Nation". That was interesting, simply for the KKK to the rescue scene.

Saw Wyrmwood. It's an Australian movie about surviving against zombies. It's quite good. It's mildly different than other zombie movies. Some reviewers described it as Road Warrior meets zombies. That description is a little bit apt. It's really more of a zombie movie than action and adventure though.

Saw An Honest Liar, the Randi movie. It's very good. If you're a Randi fan, it's a must-see.

Saw Trailer Park Boys: The Movie. Not bad. It's a comedy about some losers in a trailer park. I liked the acting and some of the characters. Everybody in the movie was a loser though. The ending was a highly implausible happy ending.

Saw Lights Out today. It's based on the original short video of someone turning off the lights and seeing a person in the darkness, and turning the lights back on and the person is gone.

Well, this movie was poorly done. The plot/premise of the whole thing was just not done well at all. It had mild creepiness though.

Recommendation: Don't bother.

Saw Extraterrestrial. It's from 2014. It was ok, not great. It's about aliens assaulting some young people in a cabin in the woods.

Spoiler:
The alien ship was very cool looking and interesting, from a horror perspective, but from a utilitarian perspective, it was utter idiocy. Goo all over the place? Flickering lighting? Just stupid.

The human guy who was a total douche throughout most of the movie got a sort of "just" ending. His character became ponderous after a while and I just wished him dead. Well, he died. He got a truly horrific anal probe. It was so horrific, that I truly didn't see any point in it. It looked like the aliens just tormented him until his death for pure sadism.

The smoking Man In Black at the end seemed silly. It seemed like a ripoff of X-Files.

Recommendation: See if you feel like watching an alien horror movie.

Saw the first half of "They Look Like People". I hated it so much I had to turn it off. I didn't know what the hell the point of this movie was. It looks like some idiot is losing touch with reality, in the most boring way possible.

Saw Antisocial. Boy howdy, that was funky. Well, a bit. It's ridiculously implausible in many places but it's very well done.

Spoiler:
A Facebook-like application causes its users to become violent and bleed from their noses and ears. It goes well beyond believability when people become human video cameras, connected to the website, and when people's bodies can provide energy for lights just by being near them.

Recommendation: See it if you like horror movies, especially zombie movies. It's well done.

Its been at least 20 yirz sins I saw it. IIRC,
Spoiler:
the dad wakes up late at nite and hirz a fauset dripping. He goez down stairz but its not in the bathroom or kichen. He goez to the basement, nope. Then the sub basement. Finally findz the drip and turnz the tap off completely. then he turnz around and Basket Case haz assembled a bunch uv gardening impliments and power toolz into a cluster swinging from the seeling and killz him.

I'm sure its not quite like that, but iz it similar?

I also recall the commercialz for it. Its in the hospital wen he'z born and the voise over sez 'therez sumthing rong with the Davis baby - its alive!'

I don't remember a faucet like that at all. Even though I saw it yesterday, I am writing in a non-definitive manner, because I wasn't fully paying attention at that part.

Spoiler:
The dad heard a bunch of power tools and hamming and goes downstairs, and sees the running buzzsaw. No dripping sound at all.

I think your memory of the commercials is for a different movie. There was no scene in a hospital.

Saw Contracted 2. It's a perfectly fine movie, but a substantial portion of the plot is due to a single {!#%@} not communicating what he knows. It's infuriating. I hate it when movies/tv shows do that. It just makes me want to scream at the movie. It's a plot device that shouldn't be used quite so often. I remember in the first season of American Horror Story this lack of communication was used throughout the series.

Spoiler:
90% of the suffering in the movie is due to that single {!#%@} not communicating what he knows. Wow, that pissed me off.

The movie is intensely gross in many parts, since it's about people rotting, and slowly becoming zombies. I mean, really painfully gross.

It looks like there will be a Contracted 3.

Recommendation: Sure, see it, if you like zombie movies.

The murderer does this routinely. He puts ads in craigslist to lure more filmmakers and murders them. He changes his name each time. He makes a video history of the filmmakers and the murders.

Dank ewe! Thought it would be something along those lines. The whole movie had a "cheap" feel. And POV movies are tedious.

Watched The Purge.

Great idea poorly executed. Exelent acting by all, nothing rong with the sinimatografy, editing, special effects, etc., the failure iz entriely in the detailz uv the story. James DeMonaco wuz the riter and director, so he gets all the blame.

Ethan Hawk wuz also the star in Daybreakerz (vampirez hav taken over in the near future) wich also wuz a great near future story idea flushed down the krapper, so I thot it haz to be the same guy but it wuz the Speirig brotherz.
