This movie reveals one of the huge flaws with colossal starships. That is, another starship can jump to hyperspace while pointing at it and do colossal damage. It renders obsolete every huge warship design. This flaw in the Star Wars stories existed since the beginning but Lucas steered clear of it. It seems he was more interested in tactical space battles than common sense. And that’s fine, but this movie throws all of those space battles into the toilet. Huge missiles with hyper drives is the obvious technology that should exist. A few of those would destroy the Death Star.

The fact that the First Order gained power so quickly seems to indicate that the Rebellion’s victory in Return of the Jedi was either very short lived or meaningless.

It was at least twenty years between Palpatine and VIII?

La La Land
It was pretty bad and I like musicals. The two leads could not sing and the songs themselves were forgettable. I'm guessing that on paper, the screenplay looked interesting as it mixed up periods of time., but the director never got this to screen.

However, what annoyed me was the story. It was a direct rip off of a 1961 Paul Newman movie called Paris Blues.

Jazz musician falls in love with girl over four seasons,
Jazz musician dumps girl because Jazz is more important
Jazz musician goes to Paris.

We went to see Kingsmen – Golden Circle. Bad choice – probably the worst movie experience ever. Mind numbing. I would have left part way thru, but was blocked by other patrons who may have died – hard to tell. I did see viewers leaving – lucky them that they were closer to the aisles.

Saw Thor: Ragnarok today. I enjoyed it, it was funny, had a good story and the acting was good.

It’s a very good entry in the MCU.

I also saw Murder on the Orient Express. It was OK. It was way too overdramitic at the end and did not match the source material. I liked the 1974 version more than this one. The book was very good.

Pretty much every ship bigger than a bog-standard TIE Fighter has a hyperdrive, so it doesn't need to be huge. And they have very capable A.I. So why do they need to strap humans into fighters? Even if the droids aren't that smart, they have instant subspace communication, so why haven't they figured out human remote controlled fighters?

Also, what happened to shields? That's the most glaring discrepancy from lore yet. How could the guy just fly in and shoot all the turrets without first taking out the shields???

And how do the bombs "drop" in space?

This was a stupid movie. I fell asleep.

Loved both Kingsman movies. Parody of the "Super Secret Cabal of Good Guys" movies.

Logan Lucky

nice heist movie.
I've come up with a set of rules that describe our reactions to technologies:
Spoiler:
1. Anything that is in the world when you’re born is normal and ordinary and is just a natural part of the way the world works.
2. Anything that's invented between when you’re fifteen and thirty-five is new and exciting and revolutionary and you can probably get a career in it.
3. Anything invented after you're thirty-five is against the natural order of things.

Was made to watch "The Force Awakens" -
basically everything is wrong with the technology in this, as well as a remarkable absence of common sense both of the Resistance and the First Order.
Worst J.J.Abrams movie I've seen so far.

How about the First Order shooting at five planets, all within easy sight of each other ({!#%@} orbital mechanics!) and easy observed from a sixth and seventh planet? And how about that guy who is an obvious Poe?

I saw “Star Wars, The Last Jedi” yesterday with my sons.

I liked it, I thought it was better than “The Force Awakens” but my favorite among the new ones is “Rogue One.”

Paint Your Wagon is the best musical heist movie I've ever seen.

I caught Brimstone last night on the tube starring Dakota Fanning as a woman struggling to make her way in the old West against an avenging Preacher who is upset Dakota killed his baby during birth in order to save his wife. Ha, ha.....a theme that still has its appeal today.

Relentlessly soul crushing plot...so much so it starts to detract from the movie. Maybe, I'm just the sensitive type. but it was nice to see a movie without car chases, crashes, special effects, and magic.
