Account expired scam

Post by TJrandom » Tue Jan 02, 2018 9:13 am

I have been receiving emails warning me that `my account` will expire, and that to prevent this I need to click the link and re-enter my credit card information in order to protect my account. The trouble is – I do not have those accounts and never have – PayPal for example. Surely this is a scam...

I get a few of those per day too. My favourites are the ones written entirely in the Arabic alphabet, which I cannot read.

"‏عبدالجليل‏، هل شاهدت تعليق ‏زينب الصاوى‏ على ‏حالة‏ لها؟"

WTF? Who the hell is Abdul Jalil? Never heard of him.

I started getting Pay Pal notices too. "Dear Client" was a tip off. Google search single response says its phishing.

Ha, ha..............think I'll change my living will to: "Kill me when I fall for email scams." I'll already be brain dead and any physical response will only be kneejerk.

In this day and age, every email account should have a big banner asking people to hovermouse and compare any address so they don't get hoovered. Besides doing a better job at spam protection...

I had no idea "hovermouse" was a word yet.

I get several of those every day, both from companies with whom I have accounts and those with whom I do not. I take the time to forward them to each company's 'report spam' email address. I also usually get at least one version of the Nigerian prince scam every day, which I report to my ISP. I'm sure I probably get far more than those that make it to my inbox, but my ISP's spam filter is excellent.

While this obviously is a concern, I can't help but wonder how gullible a person needs to be to blithely provide someone with his credit card info...in exchange for a service that's ostensibly free.
