Why is that a rule?

We used to pass out Purple Penises to guys who caught something nasty.

watch the movie and tell me it is not absurd .

the movie shows them in a cavalry charge ; they slaughter everyone , and none of them are permanently injured.

there may be exceptions to the rule , but yes I believe if you fire your rifle at people who have rifles
- your going to get wounded

It's a trope It's one of those things that movie makers haven't figured how else to portray. They need a menacing enemy that seems to be impenetrable, but then they have the hero that can't get killed. There really is no way to make that work. I first saw it in a Western. The cowboys knew they were surrounded but couldn't see the Indians. They talked about how great these warriors were. They sent one guy out on a horse and the horse came back with no rider. So, two of heroes volunteered to sneak through the bushes or something. They crawl along and come up behind an Indian that had been eating two many tacos, he's wandering around rather aimlessly. They easily jump him and bonk him on the head. A couple more like that and they are out and they go get the cavalry.

This is why the scene in Indian Jones, where he just shoots the guy who is obviously an expert swordsman is so funny.

There is a "rule" that fiction (eg movies) must be believable and credible with the result that they supposedly have to be more real than reality. EG: no pure coincidence to resolve the central conflict of the movie and so forth. I thought this in the results of the First Iraq War: total devastation of the enemy and the ONLY injuries to our side came from friendly fire.

What kind of Hollywood Movie is THAT?

I hate the 300 rounds shot in a small room.........and people ......... duck, or hide behind pressed paper folding tables and that stuff. I'm watching "The Brave" right now on TV. VERY formulistic...and I'm getting tired of people in Afghanistan talking to people in Virginia who are watching them from various camera angles with blue prints to mud hut redoubts. Was kinda fun last episodes where our heros were told where to aim against a prison wall to shoot the hostage takers as their armor piercing ammo treated the wall as if it wasn't there. But I thought mud would stop infra red observation from space.

Lots of hooey in most of whatever is on film.

A nit picker is someone who picks nits (lice eggs) off hairs.

You can still knit a pick for a nit. Pointing to a universal condition of discourse is rather pointless ..........like answering posts of people you have on ignore.

always amusing how people point out their own shortcomings as a matter of pride.
