The American Government's Advice for Yeti Hunters, 1959

Postby Telstar » Wed Feb 27, 2013 12:05 pm

Over at Slate:

"This Foreign Service memo treats a science-fictional subject—the existence of the Yeti, or the Abominable Snowman—with utmost bureaucratic seriousness. Titled “Regulations Governing Mountain Climbing Expeditions in Nepal—Relating to Yeti,” it was issued from the American Embassy in Kathmandu on November 30, 1959."

It specifically tells the hunters not to shoot it. If I ran across a giant monster like that on a mountain and it came at me. Bang! I'd still be famous. Not that I'd want to shoot one though.

I feel like if we did run across a Yeti, whatever firearm we had short of an elephant gun wouldn't put that creature down. After all, most adult humans can take 1-3 rounds of 9mm ammunition to the chest until being incapacitated.

I apologize for the semi violent tone of this last missive.

"What's that?"

"It's a elephant gun."

"What's it for?"

"For shooting elephants."

"It shoots elephants?"

"Yep!"

"How do you get them into the chamber?"

I couldn't even swallow one without being incapacitated.
