Rationalwiki needs help..

Postby Shen1986 » Thu Mar 06, 2014 6:09 pm

Rationalwiki needs help. They are making a 2014 Winter Fundraiser:

Here is more info: http://rationalwiki.org/wiki/RationalWiki:Fundraiser

Those who want can contribute.

Note: I am only informing this because I was on their page. Who is interested can contribute. Who is not, may not. Its a free choice.

This is a direct copy from a section of the article about 'Physics':

Einstein had a go at what would happen if Maxwell's constancy of light-velocity wasn't bonkers. His "Special Relativity" refined Newton's laws of motion for object at high relative velocities; gives lots of fun to web-loony watchers (Whaddya mean, time and distances are relative,? You an atheist or summin'?); and spawned a bazillion misstatements about what the 'paradox' in the Twins paradox is supposed to be.

I've been just as bad in my representation of my discipline here, but I've never claimed that those occasions were anything more substantial than bad jokes. And I've never asked anyone for money to do it.

If this relatively small paragraph is indicative of the quality in general, and I've no reason to believe otherwise, then I'm not inclined to donate. Sorry ;)

Their section on Michael Mann is total piece of {!#%@}...fantasy...provably untrue throughout.

This thread would seem to fall into the solicitation category, too.

I just wrote what I found. I am NOT a part of rationalwiki(I tried to write some articles there in the past but not its not active) besides the point that I have there a inactive member account that I do not use anymore. I just wanted to inform people about it. That is all and I think that some of their articles are not bad. At least those who debunks spiritualists and other New Age types and other woo proponents.

Yeah, it seems they cater to pleasing a certain mind-set, and aim to reinforce mainstream "skeptical" thought ...which works out OK if it's right - not so OK when it's wrong in some way and they go overboard and accept a twisted story with seeming malicious intent against perceived enemies.

It's a great idea, Raional Wiki. It just hasn't worked yet.
