Uncertainty in medicine: median values

Post by bhami » Mon Jan 06, 2014 6:07 pm

It is important to note that, in an unhealthy population, median value is very different from desirable or optimal value, for many medical health measures. E.g. BMI (body mass index) in the US pro bably has a median value over 25, but optimal value is probably closer to 20. And my favorite more obscure example is WBC (white blood count), where those following a whole food plant-based diet are inevitably flagged as "low" because the Standard American Diet produces chronic inflammation.

My favourite is chicken noodle soup. It's delicious.
