Sugar is Poison...Harvard PAID to keep it a secret.

Postby bobbo_the_Pragmatist » Tue Sep 13, 2016 9:47 pm

None of us knows what "the truth" is. We rely on science and regulations to give us the best info available to make up our own minds. Then we get the factoid that Harvard Sugar Researchers were paid $$$ and shifted their studies into the harm caused by fats.... and 50 years later, we have an obesity issue in our food/culture.

..............or.......... like Hillary becoming Rich...... is it all just disconnected coincidences???

How can we tell? I've always thought sugar was poison... but I think most of that is driven just by my taste buds.. I prefer salty and sour, hence a beer drinker and no chardonay? Ha, ha.

But.... how do we tell? Then apply the analysis to everything else we think.

No. But you do keep it brief, and thats a good thing. Or in keeping with this thread: short and sweet.

I just remembered.... sugar is not sugar. That is, not all sugar is made equal. (Of course Equal is not sugar - but that is not my point.) My point is that cane sugar is not the same as beet sugar. Cane sugar is `organic` - no pesticides used, while beet sugar is made from pesticide sprayed beets. When I feed my honeybees, I look for cane sugar and avoid beet sugar, lest some of the pesticides flow thru. I do not have scientific evidence for this, but rather the opinion of some honeybee researchers.

Good enough for me!

However, I am diabetic and avoid sugar when possible. (Snicker's bars fall into the impossible category.)

Ah Yes: Believe the Bee. Follow the Bee. Lord loves the Bee, and so should we.

but indeed. Its a bit fuzzy in my mind as the subject goes back and forth and is easily sliced through with common sense (eat and exercise moderately====HA!!!!) but sugars are not all equal, calories are not equal. many qualified people on both sides of those statements. BUT==> seems to me "something" is different if one sugar/calorie is burned off in the liver while a different sugar/calorie is immediately stored as fat. What does that difference mean? I don't know...but it does mean all those sugars/calories are not the same.

eat and exercise in moderation. Damn It. Just what I didn't want to be the truth.

No, they're not the same, but that doesn't mean they're poison, it means our body can metabolize some sugars but not others.

It would be good to see sugar `sin taxes` implemented - much as with tobacco and alcohol.... or at least an elimination of government support for the sugar industry.

In broad brush.... sugar is poison, less hyperbollic: injurious to your health and not needed in our diet to the degree it should be avoided whenever possible.

Two different people. A thinks: Sugar is sweet, I like it. B thinks: Sugar is poison, I should avoid it. Who has the better position in this contest of over simplification?

It would be good to start seeing `sugar free` on food product labels - peanut butter, breakfast cereals, etc. No need to add it to cement, flashlights, books, etc.

Fruits and vegetables contain sugars.

Studies are done with refined sugars. It eliminates confounding factors, but increases the tenuosity of the applicability of the study to real life health.

The obesity epidemic is associated with sugar consumption, but it is also associated with many other factors. The research, the misinformation, and the overgeneralizations are all ongoing.

Sugar follows Paracelsus's dictum. It is only toxic in high enough dose. The problem arises when it peaks in the blood stream to a level high enough to be harmful. Sadly, this is very common in today's world, where lots of foods and drinks have harmful doses of sugar. Purified starch is just as bad, since it turns to sugar in the gut. We all metabolise sugar and use it to generate energy. Without starch and sugar foods, we would suffer. While it is possible to live off various fats as energy source, it is not as good as a mixed diet.

So the question is how to avoid these peaks of sugar concentration in our blood. The best way is to make sure that any food that contains sugar or starch, also contains lots of dietary fiber. The fiber slows absorption of sugar from the gut, preventing the level peaking too high. Most fruit, for example, contains lots of fiber, as well as lots of sugar. So eating raw fruit does not cause a problem. However, fruit juice has the fiber removed, so drinking sweet fruit juice is bad. Potatoes, white rice, white bread, and white pasta all have too little fiber, and dump lots of sugar into the blood. So they should be avoided. (You can, to a large degree, avoid this problem by eating those 'bad' foods with other foods with lots of fiber, like green veges, so that the potatoes, rice etc hit the gut mixed with lots of fiber.)

Back in the day before the earth was
over run by plants . The foods grown
were clean. Now ~ years latter ~ nothing
dominated~ it has come to my attention
that not only is the black mold growing
like wild fire under everything that grows
wild but so are all the poisonous nightshade
plants. The garden is all of a sudden filled
with weeds that cause many health issues.
I don't suggest eating anything wild these days.
Let alone the foods they sort of tend to.
I see fields of soya but it doesn't look good.
It will all be thrown together & made into
something eatable no doubt. What health
issues will crop up from that?
Farmers so ~ either greedy or desperate
for money will sell you anything.
To be or not to be?
To believe or
Not to believe?
To be live or
Not to be live?
To exist or
Not to exist?
What was the question?
