STDs

Postby TJrandom » Wed Apr 13, 2016 10:25 pm

I looked for an existing thread, but not finding an appropriate one....

In the run-up to the 2020 Japan Olympics, Japan is looking into better controlling - sex, and the consequences of same. So as a public service, I offer this statistics based, non-opinionated look at the incidence of syphilis in Japan. The full article is quoted below...

New syphilis infections in Japan double to 796 in January-March

The number of new syphilis cases in Japan more than doubled to 796 between January and March, National Institute of Infectious Diseases data have shown.

New cases of the sexually transmitted disease increased mainly in urban areas, including Tokyo and Osaka prefectures. The health ministry has raised an alert.

By prefecture, the number of new syphilis cases stood at 350 in Tokyo, up 240 percent on the same period last year; 100 in Osaka, up 230 percent; and 37 in Aichi, up 260 percent.

Those aged 40 to 44 accounted for the biggest portion of new syphilis cases among men by age group, while among women, the biggest share was held by those between 20 and 24.

Syphilis infections have been on the rise since 2010. The number of new cases totaled 2,698 in 2015.

Australia
"More than 1760 syphilis notifications were recorded (2014) , a 34 per cent increase since 2009."

http://www.smh.com.au/nsw/venereal-dise ... z45lACHNg0

Considering Japan has a population of 120 million and Australia has a population of 20 million, Japan seems to have an extremely low rate of new infections.

We are both countries with large trading ports. However in Australia one quarter of all its citizens have both parents, born overseas. I guess the question is how many sexual partners, an average person has had, for both countries?

Well, back to the jokes thread - many more than those celibate Canadians.... :D

But... I suspect that Japans` problem has more to do with prostitution than extramarital/multiple partner coupling. Australia has a younger population, so probably more multiple partnering.

One of my favorite memories of the USAF was flying an exercise out of Thessonalika (sp) Greece and the Grizzled Old Master Sergeant set up a "Clap Board" in central ops. Line down the middle with officers on one side and enlisted on the other. Fewer officers than enlisted of course but in a 3 week venture, it wasn't until about that 3rd week that a "1" got put up on our side while the enlisted got it going the first day. I don't know what the story "really" was but in my mind it was a toss up. Each group about as active with the Officers going on up to the top floors in the whore hotel where the prime material hung out. Enlisted on the ground floors. We used to sit in the outside bar across the street and hoot at those we recognized.

Good memories: "Every swinging dick wants a brick" the Sarge would say to us youngin's. He was referring to the walkie talkies. They were fun to play with...................... Rodger Dodger, Over and Out. Good equipment to have if you were too drunk or lost to get home.

Oh--in three weeks, however many of us there were, I think we beat Japan.

It's that simple. There has never been a celibacy campaign in Australia. Sex education is simply telling 14 year olds, how to not get pregnant or if pregnant tell a family planning doctor, and how to avoid STDs. We were the first country to have simple TV adverts to warn us about AIDs. Sex is seen as a pragmatic health issue in Australia.

The RAAF base at Butterworth had lists, on the officer's notice board, of the clean brothels in Penang. I assume the lower ranks had a similar list in their mess. It's sensible.

Imagine the Royal Navy during the Napoleonic wars, going from port to port. I imagine most blokes had STD and it was a very important health issue.

Back to Japan and the Olympics... most of Japan`s `soap lands` do not admit foreigners, so Olympic male guests will be serviced by non-organized girls, who are more likely to carry STDs.

No syphilis from those Johns... It would be quite rare these days to find one that isn`t automated... Self opening, closing, flushing, and washing triggered by pushing the button that matches your choice of action. And again - no syphilis!

OK Brits – please keep yourself covered, and please do not bring gifts to Japan.

An outbreak of highly drug-resistant "super-gonorrhoea" is sweeping across Britain and could become untreatable, medics fear.

A national alert was triggered by Public Health England last September after the rare strain of the sexually transmitted superbug was detected in 15 people.

The number of confirmed cases has now risen to 34 and, according to reports, there is "huge concern" among doctors that it is spreading across the UK. And experts said it is at risk of becoming untreatable if the only fully effective antibiotic remaining fails.

You're safe in Japan, TJ. The outbreak has been detected in Leeds, Oldham, Macclesfield and Scunthorpe. As anyone in the UK can tell you, it will probably stay in Leeds, Oldham, Macclesfield and Scunthorpe. No one goes there voluntarily.

I'm sure there's no correlation, but UKIP support is very high in those places.

STD's on the rise - 'Swiping right' & online dating could be to blame

I needed to look up `swipe right`. Foolish me, I thought it might be part of foreplay before donning a condom.

I think it's actually due to sex. You can't get an STD online. Not even eBay. Too hard to ship.

Wait....so, STD isn't short for Sexy Transgender Dude? I get so confused these days.

Never had an STD, but I did get crabs from a lovely young lass. I wasn't sure what was causing the itch until I remembered the song about a crab and a lobster that wanted to get married but couldn't because "crabs walk sideways and lobsters walk straight". That's when I knew I didn't have lobsters.

I heard those were gerbils, not rats.

http://www.cnn.com/2015/02/25/health/pl ... bils-rats/

But that never sounded quite right to me...or a few others, apparently!

http://www.theskepticsguide.org/no-gerb ... lack-death

This is another great example of massive misreporting of an otherwise interesting science news item. Headlines, such as this one from the Washington Post, proclaim: After 8 centuries, rats exonerated in spread of Black Death. Gerbils implicated....

...There is no controversy over the fact that black rats were an important, and perhaps even the primary, cause of outbreaks of the plague. They spread the disease and were transported around on ships from harbor to harbor. The new study does not even address this issue....

...The new study, published in PNAS, proposes ... that the plague was actually introduced into Europe not once, but multiple times, from a reservoir in Asia....

...The study does not directly implicate gerbils, although they are one possible Asian reservoir for fleas carrying the plauge [sic]. Ground squirrels and Altai marmots are also mentioned, and there are other possibilities....

So the study says the "plauge" [I love that misspelling!] may have been reintroduced multiple times, but that rats still carried it while it was in Europe.

So John Oliver was wrong again!

Never licked an eyeball - but have eaten them, many times. Considered to be a delicacy, they are slimy, gooey, and rock hard. Think eating a marble that was dropped into custard.

I do remember nibbling earlobes and French kissing....

EDIT... fish eyes everyone... lest anyone call the FBI and report me for eyebalism …

The dangers of unprotected sex aren`t limited to STDs. True story here, heard just yesterday, passed on from mother (our age) to my wife in a neighbourhood chat that probably shouldn`t have taken place.

Young husband had drunk and unprotected sex with a `pro` at an employment related new year party back in January. Worried he might have caught AIDS, he went for testing – but since he works as a caregiver, eventually word got back to his wife (daughter of blabbing mother) that he was being tested, so he confessed. Still unforgiven, he has a bad case of depression, and so does she. He was booted, but as an adopted `head of household`, he has no other official family to re-join – so continues to live `at home`. Divorce would, but won`t, since he has two elementary kids – so wife says she will wait until they change school as they start middle school.

OK, enough on the story… So additional dangers include fear of disease, loss of sex, depression, screwed up family relations, mother-in-law blabbing to the neighbours, and neighbour spreading it around the world.

If you ever get a chance to vote or provide your opinion, please do support the vaccine for boys too.

Give HPV vaccine to boys to protect against cancers, experts say

“If we want to eradicate male throat cancers – which are soaring in numbers – we need to act speedily and that means giving them the HPV vaccine we now give to girls,” said Professor Mark Lawler of Queen’s University Belfast.

Health experts say increased levels of oral sex are in part responsible for the spread of HPV. “Smoking and alcohol add to risks, but the fact that couples are having more and more oral sex is the main factor,” said Peter Baker, campaign director of HPV Action.
