Oooh! Oooh! Guess who is destroying The Planet (tm) now?

UK environment department using 1,400 disposable coffee cups a day
Teh Gruniad

More than 2.5m disposable cups have been purchased by the UK’s environment department for use in its restaurants and cafes over the past five years – equivalent to nearly 1,400 a day.

The Liberal Democrats’ environment spokesman, Tim Farron, said the revelation, obtained through a freedom of information request, showed Michael Gove “needs to get his own house in order” in light of his public pledges to tackle the growing scourge of plastic pollution.

The Lib Dems revealed that 516,000 disposable cups had been purchased by the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs’ (Defra) catering contractors in the last year alone, under two separate outsourced contracts for use in catering outlets across its sites. The figure was 589,700 in 2016 and 785,100 the previous year.

Farron sounds like Harvey Weinstein. People talk a good talk, but rarely do they walk the walk. In fact their goody goody talk is just a smokescreen to hide their bad actions.

What kind of disposable coffee cups? I mean, are they biodegradable or something?

Apparently you can't put paper coffee cups in the paper recycling bin because they are covered in a plastic film.

I`ll bet that they aren`t being disposed, or even dispossessed - but instead are being installed permanently as sample/evidence holders in the evidence vault.

Energy required to clean reusable coffee cups vs. creating single-use cups?

And why not just tell people to bring their own cup? We have a variety of "travel cups" here.

Ask mamas how much it took to raise their children - and apportion the arms? Cool... FOIA is for digging dirt, no?

People who make dishwashers are also called 'parents'. When it first became my job, I had to stand on a stool to reach into the sink. The water was heated on a wood stove, so take the carbon desequestering into account.

Yeah, if it's held by a federal entity. Maytag would find that kind of request amusing. And they wouldn't be keeping it secret, either.
