April Fools

Post by TJrandom » Sat Mar 31, 2018 10:42 pm

I thought it would be nice to have an April Fools news story thread – to give fair warning to anyone naive enough to be duped. Please add a link to those you find...

Here is one from our Japan Times.

Manitoba RCMP purchase first left-handed handcuffs in Canada

The Manitoba RCMP announced today the purchase of left-handed handcuffs for every front line officer within the province. Each officer will now be required to carry two pairs of handcuffs to accommodate left-handed individuals who get arrested.

"This has been a long-standing issue and we are proud that we are the first police force in Canada to mandate the carrying of left-handed handcuffs for our officers" said Sgt. Jerome Gaucher of the Manitoba RCMP. "Right-handed cuffs were causing a lot of discomfort to left-handed people, so this is a very positive and proactive step."...

Oddly enough, that can be done, but not with genetics (way too complicated).

The tree would need to be mobile, growing in a container of some sort. Move the tree+container into cold storage in the fall when it goes dormant. There is a temperature range where it will stay dormant but not die. Probably would need to be kept dark as well. Leave it there until August, then bring it out into the sunshine. It will begin blooming sometime in October - the time will vary depending on when it breaks dormancy, and some trees will not break at all - they don't like being treated like that. But most will flower.

It's a one shot deal. The tree likely will not survive another winter without severe damage, as it has not had a growing season to build reserves.

Also, the flowering may be sparse, with a lot of variance from tree to tree. In any event, it would be a poor show compared to spring.
