Ok, technically this should be in the "What are you listening to" thread, but I found it rather cute, so I put it here.
So there!

Gawdzilla. You appear to have a three month old kitten playing on your desk. I generally have an enormous charcoal male resting on my lap, when working at home. It give you something to rub when you need to stop & think about something.

The average weight of a Maine coon cat is 24 pounds.

From Wikipedia
The Maine Coon is the largest domesticated breed of cat. It has a distinctive physical appearance and valuable hunting skills

I know no one believes me, but I'm pretty sure people had two sorts of domesticated cats. Some for protecting grain and some for hunting. There is that famous relief which has Pharaoh hunting with his "retriever" cat. How else can you explain the wall painting?

Well, there are a lot of birds there and none of them seem dead, so it may be an allegory.

Can someone explain to me what is going on in this photo? Considering the baby birds don't have feathers on their wings, I can only assume they are playing on a trampoline outside and in front of, the family nest.

Nope. Those are ducklings using the roof of the birdhouse as a springboard to the pond. :-P

(But in reality, they are turtles.)

Unless that was rhetorical the answer to your question is that those ducks are jumping straight down. Certain species of ducks roost in trees to care for their eggs. When they hatch the mother calls to them and they jump out of the nest to join her (assuming there are leaves to help cushion the fall).

Even without the leaves the ducklings only weigh a few grams, less than an ounce for most of them, so the fall (mass x acceleration) impact is insignificant.

BTW, Attenborough's "Earth" series shows this at one point.

That's the footage I mentioned. The narration has been wiped and that angelic choir dubbed in, but it's from the Planet Earth series.

It is pretty odd footage. I don't know about you, but I'd panic every time a duckling jumped out. I'd be there running back & forth with a "fireman's net".

However, Nature is "smarter" than I am, in many ways.

Oh, sorry, let me clarify. I can't say what that cat in the photo is doing. It is indeed possible that it's awake, and currently upside down, looking at something in front of its face, that it wants to attack. Normally, when cats wag their tails, it's not a wag like a dog's wag, but quick side to side swipes. It means they're annoyed.

One of the cats in this video wags her tail a lot. She's annoyed.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8aN5LfHEM5k

I noticed that youtube has a lot of videos of tail wagging cats where they aren't annoyed. Hmm.

Hmmm.......Per the definitions suggested by this thread, Gawdzilla and I are "crazy cat ladies". I take that as a compliment. .....back to whatever you were doing everyone....

(Anyone want to mind our house in Sydney, Australia for three weeks in July? I will give you $500 Aussie a week. It's on the 15 minute train line to the heart of Sydney. Lots of toys, entertainment areas, model tanks, 4 cats. You have to feed the cats at least once a day. A return LA-Syd-LA is $1,600USD. It will be winter, but winter is mild in Sydney.)
