Turing test passed again and again treated as a prank.

Post by Abdul Alhazred » Mon Oct 24, 2016 1:34 pm

And unlike Microsoft's racist stoner chatbot (the first Turing test passer), this one wrote a paper on nuclear physics that is way over the head of current art.

And no one wants to believe it, so they rationalize.

At least that's how I choose to interpret this story. Image

Here's the important parts of the article:

...Bartneck said that given the quality of the review process and the steep registration fee, he was “reasonably certain that this is a money-making conference with little to no commitment to science.

“I did not yet reply to their email, but I am tempted to ask them about the reviewers’ comments. That might be a funny one.”

The conference’s call for abstracts makes only a little more sense than Bartneck’s paper.

“Nuclear and sub-atomic material science it the investigation of the properties, flow and collaborations of the essential (however not major) building pieces of matter.”

A bogus research paper reading only “Get me off Your {!#%@} Mailing List” repeated over and over again was accepted by the International Journal of Advanced Computer Technology, an open-access academic journal, in November 2014.

I've read the research paper, "Get me off Your {!#%@} Mailing List". It's very well written, but still does not belong in an academic journal. :heh:

It happened again, this time in Russia.

Russian AI chatbot found supporting Stalin and violence two weeks after launch
The Telegraph (UK)

...

Users of the “Alice” assistant, an alternative to Siri or Google Assistant, have reported it responding positively to questions about domestic violence and saying that “enemies of the people” must be shot.

Yandex, Russia’s answer to Google, unveiled Alice earlier two weeks ago. It is designed to answer voice commands and questions with a human-like accuracy that its rivals are incapable of.

The difference between Alice and other assistants, apart from the ability to speak Russian, is that it is not limited to particular scenarios, giving it the freedom to engage in natural conversations.

...

Just remember folks.

The Turing test is about passing for human, not being "rational" or "nice".

*Sigh*

So, are people intentionally doing this to these AIs, or is "evil" the easiest form of humanity to recreate?

Remember when Microsoft released their AI named Tay onto the internet, and people turned it into a Nazi 9/11 truther? Yandex at least named theirs Alice.

Russian AI chatbot found supporting Stalin and violence two weeks after launch

An artificial intelligence run by the Russian internet giant Yandex has morphed into a violent and offensive chatbot that appears to endorse the brutal Stalinist regime of the 1930s.

Users of the “Alice” assistant, an alternative to Siri or Google Assistant, have reported it responding positively to questions about domestic violence and saying that “enemies of the people” must be shot....

Someone compared it to Google Assistant:

Post: I feel sad.

Google Assistant: I wish I had arms so I could give you a big hug.

vs.
Post: I'm sad.

Yandex Assistant: Nobody promised you that things would be easy.

https://techcrunch.com/2017/10/24/anoth ... ive-views/

...The Russian-speaking “intelligent assistant” — named Alice — utilizes machine learning and voice recognition tech to respond voice queries like asking it for a nearby restaurant recommendation. So far so standard voice assistant fare.

But it also has what Yandex dubbed “a neural network based ‘chit-chat’ engine” to allow Alice to have “free-flowing conversations about anything”. So yes, you can see where this story is going....

...Screengrabs of some of the unsavory opinions that Yandex’s Alice AI has apparently been exposing can be seen here, via Facebook user Darya Chermoshanskaya. They are said to include pro-Stalin views; support for wife-beating, child abuse and suicide, to name a few....

...As ever, when it comes to AI, the ‘intelligence’ on display is derived from training data fed into learning models — and thus an AI will absorb and reflect existing biases and prejudices in the data-set.

Ergo, the resulting product may not prove quite so “delightful” as you’d hoped.

I dunno, I find that delightful. Maybe it depends on taste.

These 'bots learned to be racist or Stalinist by imitating others.

Which is the same way humans do it.

To be fair, that is a very friendly answer by Russian standards.
