Effect of corporal punishment

An international study shows that in countries where corporal punishment is totally banned, there is a marked reduction in violence and fighting among young people. It did not work for partial bans (like permitting smacking at home). Is this the key to continued reductions in violence in society ?

Reduction of the amount of any variety of abuse is likely to have a positive effect.

Your second link either needs an o on the end or the .inf removed.

It's interesting to think I might be a less violent person if I hadn't been smacked as a kid. I suspect it's true. What a strange feeling!

I was caned (with the cane) at my state public school. It was the early 1970s. The headmaster did it. I got "six of the best" on the hand.

Two other boys and myself put rancid milk in a cardboard tetrapack and left it in the playground knowing other boys would jump on the "empty" tetrapack to make it go "pop". We were previously warned not to do this.

I'm against corporal punishment but I could be considered biased for the above reason.

As dad was a psychiatrist, I was never spanked. Instead I got lectures.
