Not without an EU work permit, they're not. And I don't think the UK will be issuing those for an extended period of time.

Surely their gunboats, cannons, and rifle butts will overcome any resistance...

According to the Atlas for Global Christianity (2009, p. 259), the country that received the most foreign Christian missionaries in 2010 was the US.

The US is third most populous country in the world.

How does the US missionary load compare to the whole EU plus UK?

Well Britain and France took in about 10,000 apiece.

I've met fewer Native Americans who were Christians than I can count on one hand.
The rest all practiced their own religion.
The missionaries need to know when to give up, and check out who has the better religion.

I think if you're going to have a religion, you should have the one that evolved alongside you because it's probably the one that best benefits you.

For whites and blacks, as well as Native Americans, that's some form of Paganism.

I am not a Pagan... I don't believe in any of it. I just think it probably has value to the populations that created and practiced it, or they wouldn't have developed it at all.

The same logic doesn't apply to the monotheistic religions that were imposed on those populations, sometimes by their own rulers.

I also don't ascribe to the silly romanticism associated with primal religions. I'm not saying that if people were Pagan, they would all hold hands, sing koombaya, and respect and restore Mother Earth. Or even that they wouldn't fight. I'm also aware Pagan is a huge generalisation encompassing many very disparate religions.

I'm just saying that the religions each population developed endemically probably have more benefit for them than those imposed on them for various reasons.

This might be why the British are going atheist so quickly. Imagine if you sewed legs on a shark. It doesn't need the legs, so they'd eventually fall off. (Okay, not the best analogy, but memorable, I think.)

I think it's safe to say that most native religions are indigenous to their language and culture, having developed over thousands of years.
Unlike "imported" religions like Christianity and Islam, which were imposed from outside, and often through intimidation and violence.

It's kind of disturbing how all of monotheism came from this one tiny little slice of the middle east, yet now, monotheism of one form or another is in almost total control of the world.

I've always thought monotheism in particular was a particularly insidious form of religion.

After all, if you're an ancient Greek, and some priest tells you that Aries wants this, or Aries wants that, you do have the option of saying screw it, you worship Athena now.

Within the religion.

Monotheism was common among nomadic pastoralists everywhere, not just "Abrahamic" ones.

I just wired my doorbell to start a audio file of a pack of Mexican grey wolves destroying a white tail deer. Stupid deer jumped into the enclosure with thirteen healthy wolves. The footage was epic.
