War on Christmas 2016

Postby Abdul Alhazred » Sun Nov 06, 2016 1:42 pm

Getting a jump on starting a long thread before it heats up again this year.

Other years it had already started by now, but no real action yet this year.

My guess is election hysteria is suppressing the usual war on Christmas hysteria.

That time of year already... how time flies by.

Hasn't the secularists already pretty much won? I mean the holiday season is pretty much just secular stuff now. Sure the religious bang on about Jebeesus birthday and all but as a whole the holiday is about parties, presents and deals.

Personally I'd rather this holiday as well as many others just go away and replaced with generic time off for working folks looking forward to that scheduled time off.

Dunno, I like the lights, the music, the general "going on winter" feel and am looking forward to burning... nothing, actually, lol. I gave up on cooking. :-P

We, as a Nation, might have to re-think our approach to this War on Christmas: we've waged this war for years, countless lives have been lost and billions of dollars spend, and what do we have to show for it? A coffee cup?

I hope our next president will finally give Atheists the resources and weapons to make it possible for them to finally win this war!
I've come up with a set of rules that describe our reactions to technologies:
Spoiler:
1. Anything that is in the world when you’re born is normal and ordinary and is just a natural part of the way the world works.
2. Anything that's invented between when you’re fifteen and thirty-five is new and exciting and revolutionary and you can probably get a career in it.
3. Anything invented after you're thirty-five is against the natural order of things.
- Douglas Adams

Baa Humbug... Yup, that passed the Windows spell checker. But the Urban Dictionary allows `bahumbug`, saying it means… `{!#%@} Christmas`. But my favourite this year is likely to be `Trumpists roasting o`r an open fire…`

It's starting.

An "easy listening" radio station in Chicago switched to Christmas music "for the season".

In Chicago there is a shopping mall called Block 37 (don't ask) whose basement level is also the free transfer passage between two subway lines.

This morning, even though the mall as such was not open yet, Christmas music.

I like classical music and don't mind the traditional Christian stuff (you know, about Christ) in moderation.

But SIX MORE WEEKS OF {!#%@} SANTA CLAUS every morning on the way to work.

Yes it is a war.

Block 37 takes its iconic name from one of the original fifty-eight city blocks established in 1830.

But from which one of those original blocks does it get its name?

Christmas is always a delightful time of year. Lying on the beach in the summer sun, building on my sun tan. Salad days with cold beer. Swims in the warm ocean. Dressing in shorts and T shirt, with sandals on my feet, or bare foot. Ah, the warmth!

I get a third solar keratosis excised later today - the first two findings being `normal`. D is good, but burnt, blistered, and pealed skin is not. :oldman:

True

In fact, I am very careful, and use lots of sun screen.
I enjoy the sun in winter as well, though, because it is weak enough not to have to take those precautions. The prevailing wind here is westerly and my home faces east over the ocean. In winter, I often sit on the deck, stripped of most clothing, soaking up sun while out of the wind. My country is long and thin, and has a range of climates. I chose the warmer climate as a place to live.
