Trump's legacy

Post by landrew » Sun Sep 09, 2018 1:10 am

Some day, students will open a chapter in their textbook called "The time America lost it's mind."
Or: "How we tested the Constitution by allowing a Nincompoop to be President."
The job of a skeptic is to investigate the unexplained; not to explain the uninvestigated.

One thing is for sure, there will never be a time that we didn’t elect the trumpster fire. It’s not like that time you may have slept with that one person that you don’t tell people about. It’s not like that time you got drunk and passed out and peed your pants. Hell, it’s not even like that time that your mom caught you masterbating to sheepdog trials. It’s the fact that we elected a misogynistic racist hyper babyman narcissistic psychopathic criminal to the highest office of our land. And that’s forever.

This is all hypothetical, right?

I do think that Trump will go down in history as the stupidest person ever to hold the Office. Trump's charm depends on continuous and preferable live performances, which will cease at some point. But that will be just the starting point for a dissection of his legacy. And since he has no institutional supporters, Republicans of all stripes will try to shield the reputation of the party at the expense of Trump.

I think Bush is stupider than Trump, and Trump is dirtier than Nixon, and that Nixon was ... I dunno. Nixon doesn't really stand up to the ineptitude of either Bush or Trump when it comes to being the Presdidn't.

Trump is stupider than Bush, simply because he is uneducatable. Dubya learned that Putin was not to be trusted ... eventually.

US politics, during Nixon, Clinton and Obama were characterized as the opposite of what the President's parties stood for: Nixon was working for a UBI and universal healthcare. Clinton reduced welfare to pay for the deficit. Obama couldn't close Guantanamo and used drones freely for assassination.
Trump's time, so far, has seen MeToo, a refusal of Blue Cities to stop their Sanctuaries, California and others doing the Paris Climate Accord without Washington, a wave of female candidates in politics, a wave of sexual predators out of a job - same for far-right racist talk-show mouthpieces.
At the end of the Trump Years, the country will be far further to the left, ideologically, then at the end of Obama-time.
The GOP, Evangelicals and Federalists are fully aware of this, which is why they build a mountain of {!#%@} that will take President Warren more than four years to shovel away.
