I'm finding the aftermath coverage very interesting. Communities/islands "destroyed" revealing the "risk" of building where Mother Nature takes priority.

Ha, ha.......I "almost" moved to Marathon Key 2 years ago. I decided not to given the threat of hurricanes. I suppose I could have still rented but I was all for the location. Great location on the very end of a pier. I'm sure that location is gone now.

The infrastructure of the Keys is gone. Can it even be rebuilt to 1000 year storm surge standards??? should it be left as a recreational area or for the Rich with Concrete only?

Same question for the entire peninsula of Florida... Texas coast, etc.........or will it be back to business as usual???? Whats different this time is the lack of ignorance. I think we NOW KNOW: its going to happen again. Not the brain dead analysis, unthinking assumptions of before that it was an act of god and something to put up with and overcome.

Can we accept any limits of reality?

Nice satelite photo showing BVI all green before Irma, and all brown afterwards. "Wiped Out" is very descriptive. Of note: sure it can be rebuilt.....but how fast and what with zero tourist income for how many years?

.......................and the kicker: how soon until the next "unbelievable" storm? Anyone think it will take another 500 years?

More than the scenery should be changed... I`d suggest not permitting residences or critical infrastructure at lower than 50m above sea level and 5 miles or so from any coast, river, or levee. Those set aside areas should be used for agriculture, parks, etc.

My Favorite: look at a world map. Capitol and large cities inland were colonized by Spain. They did this on purpose so their colonies could not be easily attack by sea. Everyone else build right on the water for easier trade.

Its always choices.........but 50m seems excessive. Zone for park or farming for flood relief is a certainty with the open question being how safe?....and if not useful or needed for parks, farming, etc.... strong building code?........or back to simply get your own insurance?

Ahhhhhh..........I'll post again. All the news stories about Texas and Floridians losing their homes with NO flood insurance. I'm at a loss. What are the mortgage lenders thinking..... if they do..... or are all the "underwater loans" previously gathered into some insurance product and now they are too big to fail calling for the US Gubment for a bailout?

I wonder if the financial fallout will be the next big story?

Well. bummer. No idea how much damage was done by Irma, but when I google Mar a Lago I still get hits, so obviously Irma didn`t do enough. I`ll have to cancel the party. :(

Hopefully Hurricane Mueller will hit trump before he has a chance to evacuate and he drowns, putting an agonizing end to this {!#%@} nightmare.

The U.S. Federal Election Commission allows the use of private campaign funds to pay legal bills arising from being a candidate or elected official.

Trump would be the first U.S. president in the modern campaign finance era to use such funds to cover the costs of responding to a criminal probe, said election law experts....

Trump also filed for reelection the day he took office in January, two years earlier than any previous president, ensuring a fund of millions in campaign cash would remain at his disposal...

According to a July filing, the Trump campaign paid $50,000 to the law firm of Alan Futerfas, who is representing Donald Trump Jr. Futerfas did not respond for requests for comment...
