Suggestion Box

Postby Pyrrho » Sat Dec 22, 2007 2:31 pm

Post your suggestions here.

There is no guarantee that your suggestion will be used, we accept no liability for care and feeding of your suggestion (it is up to you to keep it nourished), if we use your suggestion you won't get so much as a quatloo or Imperial Credit or Federation Credit or simoleon or zorkmid or any other currency in the known universe for it, if someone else hates your suggestion don't cry to us about it, suggestions should be achievable by at least 1000 chimpanzees typing at keyboards, suggestions involving intimate physical contact with human or animal or plant anatomy will be ignored, requests to "drop dead" will be honored in the due course of time and we'll see which of us wins that little race, pleas to ban your friends or foes will not be honored, and requests to change the forum color scheme to DayGlo® pink/green/orange will not be considered.
For any forum questions or concerns please e-mail skepticforum@gmail.com or send a PM.

There used to be a choice in the preferences of AOL to show all complete adresses as links, but the last time I tried it, it didnt work.

What I get looks like that. Its not a link, its just the adress, so to use it I have to hilite, hit edit, go down the dropdown list & hit copy, click the search box, hit edit again, blah blah to paste it into the search box & click 'go'. Yes, theres the Ctrl C & V for copy paste, but then I have to go from the pen to the keyboard, so it takes even longer.
So its 7 hellish steps of tedium instead of a single click. Its easier to just come here & click New Posts.

I'm sure you can include links in email without html. I get them & send them all the time.

E-mail written in html is very common, unfortunately. Please don't do it. A good mail reader recognizes links.
GOD is REAL unless declared INTEGER.

That's a known flaw in aol. They do not follow industry standards for email. There is a workaround, however, for sending clickabe links in plain text to aol users.

See for example:

I actually did try using anchors...this is the result:

I'm not sure how well that would work for AOL users. Gmail makes the address clickable and ignores the anchor code.

At this point it appears that plain text e-mail is the "one size fits all" option, despite the inability to make the links clickable for AOL users.

Question/suggestion:

Does everything have to be in italics? If, for example, I italicize bigfoot I haven't accomplished anything. :?:

What's in italics? All the text? That's weird...what browser are you running?

Must be a CSS issue. Let me look under the hood, maybe it's calling unavailable fonts.

Ok, I've pawed through the CSS and have cleaned up some inconsistencies and such. Font designations are as follows:

Code: Select all

Arial, Helvetica, "Lucida Grande", "Lucida Sans", "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;

Except for a couple of places where it calls Verdana in the first slot, i.e.

Code: Select all

Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, "Lucida Grande", "Lucida Sans", "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;

Maybe for April Fool's day I'll set it to call Wingdings exclusively.

At least "Comic Sans"! :D

I'll give it a day to clear the cache and see if anything changes. So far, S.O.S. :|

No change in the italic thing. I can live with it, however. No need to spend a lot of time on it. 8-)

Consider re-allowing pictures in a limited fashion. It's sad when one abuser causes everyone else's privileges to be revoked.

I've enabled image attachments in The Nexus. The system will generate a thumbnail for images larger than 12k. Maximum permitted image dimensions is 720 x 720 pixels. Unfortunately, clicking on a thumbnail will open the image in the current window. You'll have to use other means to get it to open in a new window.

Users who don't want to see attachments can disable display of images in the user control panel.

Hotlinking of images is still disabled.

Please respect the forum rules regarding content. Violators will lose the privilege of posting attachments at the very least. Other dire consequences will be at the discretion of the administrator.

Please also respect the copyright of whoever owns the images you choose to post. Takedown orders by copyright owners will be respected.

Anyway, we'll see how it goes, and maybe enable for other sections of the forum later.

Perhaps Economics should be renamed The Social Sciences, & expanded in scope as such. Perhaps Politics and Government should be renamed Social Interaction and Ethics, or, Social Philosophy, Politics, Law, and Ethics. & Perhaps a new arrangement for General Subjects should be:

- Science, Technology, and Mathematics
- The Social Sciences
- Belief, Nonbelief, and Philosophy
- Social Philosophy, Politics, Law, and Ethics
- History
- Holocaust Denial
For the record, "V" is an abbreviation in my screen name. Go to my 'website' to find out what it stands for.

Might the flying text be more useful over the last post, rather then the first post of the thread?

How do you always seem to show up immediately after I've posted something? Are you an autonomous knowbot? Or do you just have a string tied to your toe that tugs on it whenever a new post shows up on the boards?

...or are you maybe a genie? Can I have a new hat!

Musical emoticons "smilies"

Postby Matthew Ellard » Wed Aug 26, 2009 6:33 am

Dear Pyrrho

May I request that next time you are reviewing emoticons you may consider adding one that represents a "treble clef" or "opening sheet music". My aim is to have some emoticon to indicate when I am "singing a tune" to another member.

I am not the only one who "sings" to other members. Perhaps more members would "sing" if they had the right emoticon. It may also improve the clarity of my arguments on the holocaust denial sub forum. cough cough

And how about fiddling "that same old song"?

I need this smilie: http://zapatopi.net/afdb/afdbsmiley.gif

You can find it at http://zapatopi.net/afdb/ where the board...um, "own-guy-thingie," says:

Add an AFDB button to your website today to let people know that they can stop the destructive forces of mind control! Also available, AFDB Wallpaper and a message board smiley: [http://zapatopi.net/afdb/afdbsmiley.gif]
