Couldn't access forums

Post by Gord » Thu Jan 29, 2015 9:31 pm

My laptop runs IE8. I couldn't access the Skeptics Forum from it when I tried earlier this week. Is it a problem with IE8?

I can't figure out why my laptop couldn't reach the forums, then. :?

Do you get an error message of any kind, or does the site simply not load?
For any forum questions or concerns please e-mail skepticforum@gmail.com or send a PM.

It simply doesn't load, as if the site were down. I went to "is it down for you" but it was only down for me, apparently.

How are you posting if it doesn`t load?

I frequently have WIFI access problems and am occasionally compromised by `scripts` and viruses. So I frequently reconnect to WIFI and almost continually run SpyBot to clean out the scripts and quarantine any viruses.

Gord, what's the date on your calendar? Did it coincide with the upcoming update of the forum software when you couldn't log on?

PC. Laptop can't reach forums; PC can reach forums.

PC can't write in completely sentences, however. Problems appears to be with user. With attempt reboot after nap.

I frequently have WIFI access problems and am occasionally compromised by `scripts` and viruses. So I frequently reconnect to WIFI and almost continually run SpyBot to clean out the scripts and quarantine any viruses.

My laptop doesn't have problems accessing the WIFI, and can access every other site I visit. It could even access the Skeptic Magazine page that has the link to the Skeptics Forums. It can't reach the forums themselves, though.

My calendar needs to be reprogrammed: Every day is Monday, and the time is always 1 a.m. Every message that people leave me always ends with that day and time, so it seems like they all try to contact me at the same time every weeks: Monday, 1 a.m.

Gord, it can't be anything to do with your OS per se. Likewise, it can't be anything to do with your browser per se. Somehow or other, you have managed to put a block on this forum. You have the choice of three solutions ...

a) spend an inordinate amount of time finding and releasing that block (and probably never finding it).
b) reinstall your OS (I assume it's Windoze) with all the attendant naffness of reinstalling everything else.
c) admit defeat and install a nice flavour of Linux.
d) hit the laptop with a hammer. It won't work, but you'll feel better until you realise that you've destroyed your laptop.

You have my sympathy.

Check the forum address in the address bar after you have clicked on forums... it should say: http://www.skepticforum.com/

I can't do anything to the laptop, it's one of those "use it as it is" things that you borrow/rent from racists with weapons.

I'm sorry to say Gord, but this forum has become too liberal for your conservative gun-hoe Microsoft connection to handle.

That's it! Now, tell this forum about your views on feminism and abortion. I've noticed a significant signal strength increase since your last reply:

Good work.

Now finish by linking a youtube reference to you drinking a warm cup of tea during a difficult yoga position.

Hey! I'm on! It works!

Did something change?

(Also, on my way here this time, I ran across another website called skepticsforum [with an extra S in the middle] that leads to a religious website. That was confusing!)
