Automatic Ranks
Keep 'em? Dump 'em? Not worth another thought?
I'd make this a poll but that's too much like work.

Re: Automatic Ranks
My only qualm with them was the "Valued" rank going to peoples heads, but that's been dealt with (thanks again).
Dum ratio nos ducet, valebimus et multa bene geremus.
Re: Automatic Ranks
Here's my proposal for a new set of automatic ranks:
Posts -- Rank
10 -- "Has more than 9 posts"
100 -- "Has more than 99 posts"
1000 -- "Has more than 999 posts"
10000 -- "Has more than 9999 posts"
Feel free to add more in the middle as desired.

Re: Automatic Ranks
I like them, just fine. The folks that come in and get a little confused, or arrogant about being "Valued Poster", seem to be a bit arrogant and confused, anyway.
I think True Skeptic at 10,000 is great. How many do we need to achieve Skeptigod?
Anyway, I'm not trying to out do anyone with post count. I'm just trying to have fun, and not say too many stupid things.
Is there a way to do the ranking on "time served" instead of post count? Often a contributor will have a join date in 2005, but have a couple hundred posts, or whatever.
Edit: to add new thought..

How about 5734--"Has more than 5733 posts" ?

More than 9000! My only qualm about the True Skeptic rank is it's missing the TM.

I think "True Skeptic" should be changed to "Has No Life". Quick! Before anyone else reaches it!

Nnnnnnno, I don't like that "stool" in there. It may lend too much credence to some posters.

Thanks. It took me hours to think that one up. Then I stole it from someone else.

I just now noticed my forum rank: "Has More Than 7K Posts".
How come no one objected to my silly idea?

I want my life back!
It's not like I spend all day here, like some other posters. *ahem*

It's taken me 11 years of actually living life, and describing certain aspects of it here (sometimes in uncomfortable detail for others), to click-over from "True Skeptic", (a title I much endeared, since I invented it), to "Has no life".
How dare I be lumped-in with these... these plebians!

When I first got on RDF I posted an average of six hundred posts a day. When I was an admin elsewhere I doubled that.
