How about installing Tapatalk? It's an easy mod, and would make the forum a whole lot more friendly for mobile device users.

Ok, I've installed the plug in. Any mobile users out there, please let me know if it actually works.

I don't know if I don't understand it, or it doesn't work well. There's no way to reply. I logged in, and searched for this topic, which was easy, but then to reply I had to open in Safari, which wants me to log in again, and with the spammers I have a horrendously complex password which isn't easy to type on the little bugger. I'll play with it a little more.

Wow! I make a suggestion at night, then when I get up the next morning Pyrrho has already impemented it. Thank you!

As for how it's working, I'm using it right now on an iPod Touch and it's working great.

By the way, on an iPhone anyway, the reply function is tucked away in the arrow that's at the top right of each post.

Tapatalk is sometimes a bit buggy, but the developers seem to be making regular and rapid improvements to it. It's far better than sqeezing the web version of the forum into a smart phone browser window.

I just started using Tapatalk and all of the avatars say hotlink refused. What's up with that?

Hotlink protection to prevent scrapers from embedding images linked to here. I can turn that off. Nice to know it was working though.

I'll be updating Tapatalk today. I will have to remove the existing Tapatalk installation before I can install the new version, so Tapatalk won't work while I do that.

ETA 1 hour.

They seem to want everyone to install it with "push notification," which means a lot of editing of several forum PHP files which I'd rather not alter. Plus they want me to install yet another module to install their module, whereas all I really needed to do was to replace the existing versions of their files, no push notification required, and certainly no ad banners if I can help it.

Yeah, it quit. Doesn't know who I am, now.

I'm not speaking for everyone, of course, but I don't use it enough to care. If it's a pain in the ass, won't bother me a lot if you don't fix it.

Bummer. It seems that everything cool and convenient is turning to a pain in the ass. I have my '68 jeep's parts all gathered together. The mechanical fuel pump can even be hand primed. Not a lot bad about old {!#%@}. I can drive my old jeep and just imagine what you guys are going to say about my ideas. And I recently acquired a full on military gun rack that was designed for the thing. That, and a cooler, four wheel drive, some Rolling Stones cassettes……..

I'll have to reinstall it from square one.

I'll fix that hotlink business...although hmm, hotlink protection is currently disabled on the server.

Must be in .htaccess

In it to win it...

Re: Tapatalk

I will be removing Tapatalk. Security updates are too frequent, it is intrusive for new visitors on mobile and obscures the whole page in favor of itself, requires users to install an app to function, calls remotely to the Tapatalk servers, and requires additional attention and maintenance.

For mobile users I will be updating the "Skeptic New" style template with the "Skeptic 2010" style colors. That theme is responsive and works well without requiring the user to install a third-party app.

Okay, I have the Skeptic New style template installed. It appears to be adequately responsive on desktop and mobile, although the banner image is not behaving. You can find it in your preferences section of the user control panel. This does not have the Thanks option or the additional ignore options installed yet.

No, you know what? I am leaving the template alone, once I get it fixed again. I'll remove the boilerplate text to reduce the size of the footer in that template but after that I am not going to fool with it.

I tried to make the bottom section of the forum page collapsible. Hilarity ensued. The administrator control panel was in Times Roman and none of the buttons worked. Plus it broke the bottom of the page in prosilver again.

Fixed it now. Leaving it alone.

I am going to go cut stuff with my saws-all.

What could go wrong?
