Atheist or Agnostic?

Postby Alexander941 » Sun Jan 26, 2014 7:05 pm

I myself think of me as an Atheist but I am not that sure if i fit the definition, because I my have some strange views on that topic, so I want to ask you about your opinion:

I dont know if the Universe was created, if some Sort of intelligence was involved. Maybe our univers was made by the inhabitants of some other universe with different physics, or it is sitting in a "petridish" in a Laboratory, and was created by the physicists of that bigger universe to study how universes come into existence, who knows, maybe it was created by intelligent beings without knowledge, the Big Bang might be, some sort of "throwing stones into a lake" somewhere else (we simply cant look outside to know), but it is not likely, and even if it were that way, these creatures wouldnt be gods.

But I do not believe in Stories made up by nomadic tribes, like the Bible, the Quran and similar Stuff.
All those masses of Scriptures contain no evidence that they have been made by someon else but a bunch of uneducated dessert dwellers who didnt know sh*t about the world (which wouldnt be that bad) and who show a wide range of really, really ugly character traits (which is bad).

What do you think?
Am I some sort of Agnostic?

The terms don't conflict, so you can be an agnostic athiest. That is, you lack a belief in gods and are not sure if they exist.

Ehm, I do not believe in Gods, but i dont know if the Universe was created, and since that falls in some way under a similar category this would be the point Iam unsure.

You're an agnostic. You fit Thomas Huxley's usage of the term anyway, and he coined it.

People associating freely respect norms of their choice, and relationships governed this way are necessarily interdependent.

More central authorities conquer by dividing, imposing norms channeling the value of synergy toward themselves.

"Every man for himself" is the prescription of a state, not a free community. A state protects the poor from the rich only in fairy tales.

Hm, he more or less says that we cant be certain about such things, and yes we cant be certain about the things I mentioned above, but we can be certain that the Gods we hear about dont exist because we see how they were made, we see that they disprove themself in their own scripture, and we can explain why they came into existence. Not every Madman who tells us he just met the creator of the universe who appointed him to be ruler of the world, should be taken seriously, or make us doubt reasonable conclusions.
And if there is something out there, maybe some giant cat who pukes out new hairy universes every few weeks... I do not think that such beeings fit the description of what we would consider a god.

If there "is something", does it matter ;)

Let them be, if they are - But don't bother if there aren't

On balance, there probably aren't...!

I don't believe in non-existent gods, therefore I'm an atheist. I also don't believe in the ones I don't know exist, so I'm still an atheist.

As an atheist, I don't believe that anyone knows if any gods exist -- if I believed someone knew that one or more gods existed, I'd believe one or more gods existed too, so I wouldn't be an atheist. But since I don't believe that anyone knows if any gods exist, the term "agnostic" becomes meaningless to me because it applies to everyone. And everything. Rocks and shrubberies.

I don't believe in things that are highly improbable without evidence. A creator fits that bill. But more than that, I certainly don't believe in a theist argument, and I feel quite opposed to the tyranny that the theists would have us live under.

And if we were some sort of unlikely creation….so what? There is no reason to assume that one form of worship is better than another, or no worship at all. I have to believe that anything of the sort is completely fabricated until further evidence shows otherwise. And, personally, I say {!#%@} 'em. There's nothing that does show any reason for worship, praise, or any reason for gratitude, fear, or any desire to be on the side of what seems to be a most malicious, capricious, and hypocritical {!#%@} imagined by humans. If, indeed, there were any possibility of such a fantastical force.

Life's too short to drink bad beer, or worry about the possibility of an entirely unlikely deity. Fighting the credulous, however, seems quite a fair pastime.

So, perhaps, agnostic, which is a cop out term. I cannot know. Atheist, because I don't believe. And perhaps anti theist, because I think the theists are not correct, nor could they know if they were correct. And the more scientific evidence that comes about squeezes the possibility of some bogus deity right the hell out. Theism still tries to stifle growth, knowledge, and freedom. So I'd probably identify that way, against theism; anti theist.

My shrubs are terrible god-botherers. I tried re-planting them, but that just magnified their determination. You can't walk past the lavender without being told to "repent"...

I've had a sign printed out - "Do not talk to the herbs". We'll see how well that works out. My guess is "not at all".

(Is Lavender even a shrub at all?? )

Yeah. Putting numbers in parentheses after the decimal is the same as putting them under a bar; it means they repeat forever. Also there's a proof that 99.(9)% = 100%.
