No I am simply wrong. It seems Warner Bros are concentrating on the US market rather than Australia. That's sort of fair. We are a pretty tiny market.

Yeah, the spillover across the border into Canada is pretty big. On occasion, I've seen the same ad for the new Mad Max twice in the same commercial break. I'm actually getting pretty sick of it.

I haven't seen one TVC or one outdoor poster. There is a normal poster at the local cinema complex and that's it so far.

I think that Warners is waiting for US word of mouth (reviews) to stimulate Aussie sales. Warners is normally really good at promotion, that why this seems odd.

New T-14 Russian tank Breaks down at Victory parade

Postby Matthew Ellard » Tue May 12, 2015 12:57 am

It's a little bit sad. One of the new Russian t-14 tanks broke down during the Moscow victory parade.

The recovery vehicle is unable to tow it away as there is obviously something very wrong with the new tank's transmission. ( It appears to have seized in some way)

phpBB [video]

It's a strange looking turret because it has active armour (ERA) hidden under spaced armour, which is an unusual combination, to protect against shaped charge weapons. This suggests is has urban fighting capacities. However at the same time it has been designed for full future automation, which suggests open battlefield use. The new tank is therefore a compromise and a bit heavier at 48metric tons.

I just finished the third season of American Horror Story. I really liked the first season (Murder House) and the second season (Asylum) was great too. This one (Coven) was a huge disappointment. I lost interest after a couple of episodes but I kept watching because I was waiting for some great twist to come in but it never did. I'll still probably watch the next season (Freak Show) when it gets added to Netflix but I'm not sure.

I watched it. Russell Brand is a very annoying person. I imagine that every time he walks into a production meeting, the producers get out their calculators and talk about finance, to inspire him to go elsewhere. :D

Despair and Revolution.

Today on HULU I viewed again the 1927 film Metropolis, recently restored with a magnificent score and 25 minutes of lost footage (with only a little is still missing), making it two and a half hours long. I am reminded why it is a classic. It has a complex plot; a cross between a messiah myth …think DUNE… and a love story, with character's plans being subverted by other characters, and lots to keep one interested. There's a witch burning, an extended chase and fight scene, and neat special effects. Everyone has seen the magnificent transformation sequence, but it's just the tip of the iceberg.

I seem to have a fondness for making comparisons to current events, and the workers riot which floods the workers city with their children still in it reminds me of riots in the US, when we burn down our own neighborhoods in protest.

The excitement begins with the words "What were you doing in the machine halls, Freder?". People with even the smallest authority who have propensities incompatible with maintenance of the existing order must be shielded from knowledge which might make them a threat; keep the "haves" and "have nots" separate. Which sort of begs the question how the worker Georgy 11811 (suddenly freed) is able to imagine what goes on in a nightclub.

On a lighter note, Rotwang the inventor (think FRANKENSTEIN) was a lot of fun… you know they're in trouble when you see the pentagram on the wall behind the Machine-Man (not yet a woman) in the unfortunately named Tower of Babel.

With the hope for a "mediator" as the only thing keeping the workers from rioting, the machine Maria/Hel is the catalyst which causes civilization to implode. But don't worry, the human Maria and Freder (her love) both survive.

On Otzi – the Iceman – found in 1991 near the Italy/Austria border, I just saw a Discovery channel conspiracy theory – claiming that there might be a curse on those associated with his discovery and subsequent scientific examination. Over the 20 years since his discovery, some 8 people with close contact died from accident or disease. And this put me to wondering – how many people associated with Otzi will still be alive a hundred years from now? That they will all have died surely is good evidence of a curse –no?

We saw Jurassic World – in a 4DX theater, a first for us. It was an enjoyable experience – with water mist, fog, puffs of wind, breezes, and seat motion that matched the scenes. A bit pricy – at just over twice what we normally pay. Of course the movie script is cookie cutter to the series, but IMO well worth watching.

LSD simulator

Postby Matthew Ellard » Sun Sep 06, 2015 3:00 am

This is a conversation from another thread.

LSD simply cuts off or corrupts sensory information coming into the brain and the brain makes up the difference. Hallucinations are not "additive" (dragons, monsters etc) but the brain trying to turn corrupt sensory input into normal already understood things. If you look at a complex Persian carpet, on LSD, it's still a Persian carpet, but the pattern keeps slightly changing as the brain tries to make a mental image from corrupt information. It was a lot of fun when I was in my early 20s but not like watching Fantasia, as I had hoped. ( From memory, Hunter Thompson first commented on the "breathing Persian carpet")

LSD visual pattern simulator & Persian carpet.
This is a LSD simulator that simulates the visual effect from taking LSD. I think it is pretty accurate. It does not simulate the other senses nor the mixing up between the senses. I suggest people give it a go and then look at the Persian carpet or any complex patterned shape.

That was exactly my experience. Things like glasses on the table changed sizes, expanding and shrinking in gentle waves, and the walls billowed like sheets hanging in a gentle breeze. Reality seemed soft and wavy. But mushrooms were full on hallucinations, the walls turned into three dimensional windows of alien landscapes, AND THERE WERE THINGS COMING OUT OF THEM! Malicious trans-dimensional creatures. I was curled up in a foetal ball, repeating, "This is not happening, man! This is NOT happening!" My mates thought it was hilarious.

Anyway, found a new cartoon full of exceptional artistry....
