Ohmygoddddddd Hotmail sucks!

They sent me this message yesterday, and I replied that it didn't work, so they sent me the same message today:

...Since you mentioned that you are unable to receive the verification code because you are using landline, you may ask your family member or friend if you may borrow their phone to receive an SMS code. Please follow the steps below to unblock your account:

1. Go to outlook.com and once you get the error message that the account was temporarily suspended, click Continue.
2. Enter a phone number or any phone that can get text messages. This does not have to be a phone listed in your security information. Once a phone number is entered, click Submit.
3. The following screen will appear that the code was sent. Please check the phone for the code and leave this window open.
4. If the code will not work, make sure to copy the code inside the text message and not the number the text message was from.
5. Once the code is received, please copy the code into the field and then click Submit.
6. You will then receive a message that the account was unblocked. There may be one more thing to do. Once you click Continue, you might be prompted to change your password.
7. If prompted, we suggest using a password that you can remember but is not the same as other passwords they might use. Sometimes a phrase is better than a single word.
Once you're done, click Submit.
8. Once the password has been changed, please sign in and you should be done.

In case that you're still having issue on receiving security code, I encourage you to undergo account validation process. This process will allow you to choose a working alternate email where we can send the reset link once you've passed the validation.

1. Go to this link https://account.live.com/acsr
2. Enter your Microsoft account.
3. Enter a contact email address (Important: please enter a contact email address which is not associated from the account that you're trying to recover. If you enter a contact email address linked to your account, it will only ask you to change the password. However, if you enter a different contact email address, this will lead you to answer the security questionnaire to validate your account ownership.)
4. Enter the characters you see in the picture.
5. Click Next.
6. A popup will appear, enter the code, and then tap “Verify”.
7. Validate your identity by answering the form/questionnaire and providing as much information as you can in the Microsoft account recovery page.
8. Follow the on-screen instructions thereafter.
(If you will be able to prove its ownership, we'll send you the single use password reset link which is only valid for 3 days.)

Below are some helpful tips for submitting another account recovery request:

- Answer questions using the information you used when you created the account or last updated it.
- Provide all possible previous password and try answering your Security question/answer
- Submit the recovery request from a computer you frequently use for Microsoft services.
- Answer as many questions as you can and be as precise as possible.
- For questions with multiple answers, such as email subjects and contacts, provide as many answers as you can....

First, I didn't say I had a landline, I said I didn't have a phone and the only phone I could borrow was a landline.

Second, that link they give (https://account.live.com/acsr) doesn't lead to a questionnaire, it leads to a password reset. I have now reset my password twice because I followed the advice given in that email.

THERE IS NO QUESTIONNAIRE!!!

Instead, this is what I get:

Page 1

Fill in the account you're trying to recover, and the account where we can reach you. [two boxes to fill in]

Page 2

We've sent you a code. Log into your email address, copy the code, and paste it here. [one box to fill in]

Page 3

Type in the password you want to change to, then retype it to verify it. [two boxes to fill in]

Page 4

Congratulations, you have now reset your password! Goodbye.

Bummer... Maybe you should ask that they provide a phone number themselves,l participate in the recovery, and relay the resulting information to you via that landline you would borrow...

I'm thinking of asking someone on a forum to let me use their phone number. They can get the code, then post it online for me.

'Cause, yeah, THAT'LL somehow verify who I am.

Ours are smart-toilets, meaning that they flush, close, and open automatically. Bummer, eh? They even have a built in light that comes on in the darkness, so one doesn`t need to take the glare of the overhead light at night and possibly forget to turn it off. Scratching my head now to find a petty issue...

Arse-smart toilets are a great idea. In Australia, I'd brand them Smartarse Dunnys(TM).

Being of European descent, I would occasionally appreciate that facility. And use less tissue. And scratching.

About the seat argument, I've had two girlfriends that were serious about it. At first I thought they were taking the piss, so to speak, but no. They were dead serious that I was being sexist by leaving the seat up.

"I have to lift it up. So why can't you put it down? You even get a gravity assist."
"This is a female house! We don't like sitting on cold porcelain in the middle of the night!!"
"Well, did you think to look if the seat was down before you sat?"
"NO! WHY SHOULD I? THIS IS A FEMALE HOUSE!"
"Well, I have to check if the seat is down... "

My solution was to close the whole lid.

Yeah. I'm single.

Yep. When you propose that option it quickly become clear that they want a solution that is maximally beneficial to them, not a fair and equitable solution.

Fun thing: Super glue the seat to the lid.

Latest in my Hotmail debacle:

Hi,

Thank you for getting back to us. We apologize for the delay in response. We completed and fixed a number of tools update. I do understand the inconvenience you are experiencing. Allow me to assist you further on this.

For additional information, most of the time, the system will temporarily block your account if it noticed some unusual activity. This may have caused by one or more of the following reasons below:

- Too many attempts of signing in to your account with wrong credentials
- Your account got compromised
- Account is possible hijacked or hacked
- Your emails that were sent are spam-like
- You were sending emails to multiple recipients at the same time

Since we cannot provide specific information about your account's suspension, we recommend checking our "Code of Conduct" at this link: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/servicesagreement

You have two options to recover account, first is by SMS Verification using your listed security information or any phone number you can access. Since you don't have a phone number to verify your account, we suggest that you submit account validation forms (https://account.live.com/acsr). By this process, you will be asked account-specific questions and you need to fill out the form with as much correct information as you can remember. If you pass, you will receive a password reset link which will be sent on your chosen alternate email.

Note: please use an alternate email that is not associated as security information (Email to****@hotmail.com) with your account when submitting account validation forms. Otherwise, you will not be able to go through the recovery form but it will let you proceed through the password reset process instead.

For added information, the data which will be asked are based on passwords you've used, answers to your security questions (if you have security questions set under your account), your contacts and email subjects you have sent or received using your account. This also includes some of your profile information you have provided when you have created the account. Also, using a computer or device you've frequently used when accessing your account will also help when doing the form.

Once you’ve regained access to the account, we advise that you keep your security info (alternate email and/or phone number) updated at all times and improve your security settings. Please refer to the links below for more information:

To update security info : https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/hel ... rity-codes

Help protect your account : https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/hel ... ct-account

We also suggest that you always review your Recent Activity page from time to time. To know more about Recent Activity, check out this link - https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/hel ... ivity-page

To prevent issues like this to happen again, you may visit the link article I have provided below for more information about blocked accounts.

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/hel ... -suspended

It has comprehensive information on how to unblock your account and what else you can do in case SMS verification did not work.

Thank you,
Luis
Microsoft account Support

What a load of crap.

A) I didn't do any of those things that would get my account suspended. "Someone hacked my email" is almost always an excuse that turns out to be false. What I did do was use my account to recover a couple of passwords to other websites, and then block someone spamming me in Spanish. (I have no idea what they said.) If blocking someone who had sent over a dozen spam messages to me is considered spamming, then to hell with Hotmail.

B) The website they give (https://account.live.com/acsr) DOES NOT lead to any validation forms, questionnaires, or account-specific questions. It leads to a password reset. I've reset my password several times now using that link, and it DOES NOT recover my account. (For the record, the password I used this time was "{!#%@}". Next time it will be "Ican'{!#%@}'mdoingthisafourthtime".)

C) The other link they give (https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/hel ... -suspended) DOES NOT have "comprehensive information", it has the same information that was contained in this email.

Yeah. An old girlfriend had Hotmail and used me as her security backup. Apparently it got hacked and I keep getting "unusual activity" notices, but she abandoned it years ago.

So Hotmail sez to me:

Hi,

Thanks for coming back to Microsoft account Support Team.

It seems you still have issue in accessing your account and has trouble in passing our validation form. Having this kind of issue is not what we intend you to experience. I know how important for you to get this issue rectified, so let me continue to assist you.

As per advised, the other option left for regaining access to your account, is to undergo account validation process. Please do understand that this is how we validate account ownership and that it cannot be bypassed. Know that we are only keeping the security and privacy of your account in our best interests and that we're only asking for information that only you, the account holder, can provide.

Given this, please submit another account recovery request using the link below and provide much and accurate information about your account.

Here’s the link for our online validation form: https://account.live.com/acsr

Let me give you tips on how to pass this process, to verify you own this account, you will need to fill out as much as possible on this form. Even though your original information has probably changed, be sure to use the information you had associated with the account originally. And then I reply:

Dear crazy people (or bots, whichever you may be):

As I have repeatedly informed you, there IS NO VALIDATION FORM at https://account.live.com/acsr. That is a PASSWORD RESET page.

I have now followed it for the fourth time and have changed my password for the fourth time. However, THERE IS NO VALIDATION FORM at https://account.live.com/acsr.

Let me say this, yet again: THERE IS NO VALIDATION FORM AT https://account.live.com/acsr.

Please correct your error and then get back to me with the address for the account validation form.

Thank you

An easy alternative is to dump your account and start a new one? How much continuity do you really need?????

The account is still linked to one website. I've tried to change it, but that website requires I respond from the account I'm changing from, rather than from the account I'm changing to. Otherwise, I've already switched over everything I care about to my new gmx account. (The spammers can keep filling up the old one.)

The internet is actually fairly limited. Try to get in touch with a real person on the phone. It can work wonders....if you can find the phone number........and get a person.

Good luck.

Know that we are only keeping the security and privacy of your account in our best interests and that we're only asking for information that only you, the account holder, can provide.

Shouldn`t they at least lie and say that they are keeping the security and privacy of your account in your best interests ?

If they respect you that's what they would say.

Its an instant giv away that they are demented scatterbrainz wen the paje haz pop-ups overlapping other stuff wile there are vast blank areaz.

Then therez the low number uv info boxez befor you need to go to the next paje.

The little "sign in" in the upper rite iz a nice touch. It so efficiently sez 'we are Microsoft. To hell with lojik and to hell with you.'
