Over this summer, my stepdaughter took over the car stereo and we've been listening to the pop stations. I have to say, some of this new stuff is pretty good. There's like this whole new world of music out there.
See, the problem with Dallas-Fort Worth radio is it sucks. At least the rock stations do. I love my music from the many artists from the last 7 decades at least but those artists recorded so much more than the hits they play. The motto for DFW classic rock radio should be "playing the hits you haven't heard in 24 hours".
And that brings me to finally accepting the fact that the Beatles and Hendrix aren't going to be in the recording studio any time soon. I would give anything to see Stevie Ray Vaughn play just a few notes, hell, I would cry tears of joy as he tuned his guitar and be grateful for that but at least he lives on through the precious few recordings we do have. I'm glad that I have people, like my friends here that post music on this thread and yes, my bro, and my stepdaughter, who is flying here as we speak to live with us for good. So, I'm going to post some of the tunes that I've been dancing to lately and making me forget the ugliness that's out there waiting to drag us all down.
Norma, enjoy whatever delicious dish you're eating, the wonderful company you're with and dance with me afterwards or whenever you want. It would be my honor.
To all, peace. Love. Music. Hope

I'll tell you why my two older brothers are voting for that idiot: they are both self-righteous, racist christians. In other words, your typical trump supporter. My oldest brother actually thinks gay marriage is still the most important issue our nation faces and my other brother hates it when he's at work and sees a black guy standing on the corner. He says, why am I busting my ass while he's just standing there doing nothing. I told him, maybe he works nights. Maybe he's waiting for the bus to take him to see his mom in the hospital. Did you ask him why he's standing there or do you assume he's up to no good. But that's it. Those are their biggest reasons to support him. (I've said it over and over, trump supporters aren't the sharpest light bulbs in the picnic basket)
They always hated that our parents religious beliefs didn't take with me, and that I not only questioned it, but ridiculed it, even at an early age and they still to this day, after at least 35 years of this, they still think I'm going through a phase. They still ask me to pray for every little thing even though I always ask who they're praying to. They expect me to compromise my principles just to avoid a religious discussion or so they won't be offended. Yes, those same people who think political correctness has gone too far and every group should stop being offended when they are insulted.
We have spoken to each other since then but they were both upset that I wasn't returning their calls for a few days. I do love them, but they wasn't raised right. I did ask them to attend a trump rally and see if they are welcome there. They both felt they would be. I told them those other idiots would assume the worst about them but they didn't see that happening. They think they would be accepted.

Thanks for your response, Reuben..
And of course, commiserations... because while it is liberating to think for oneself, to ask "why," to ask for explanations rather than gospel, still, it is also painful to be alienated for whatever reason from one's family, and particularly from one siblings: they are after all, the only ones who were present at the scene of the "crimes," the only one who are truly aware of how you came to be you.
And while the exile is liberating in many ways, it is also a source of chagrin, even rage at being one against the family grain.

And I think, you are correct in thinking that a desperate desire for acceptance is at the root of your brothers' social and political stances: acceptance DOES have something to do with the peculiar, certainly illogical choice of candidate.
Because despite the myth of "the melting pot" America is not all that kind to the immigrant, and the children of immigrants.....and even the children of the children of the children..
Even financial success does not free the recent arrival from the onus of being "the other," the outsider, with the names that go with the condition.
I had an Aunt who was proud of the fact that her clearly favorite son was ashamed of her. "My son" she would boas, " is so successful that he and his wife never invite me to their house."
Of such is the urge to be a Republican, born.

The objects of racism lining up behind the racist, in an attempt to disassociate themselves from the rest of the despised group.
"Maybe if we behaved better, dressed better, spoke better, took orders better, we could prove we were different from the herd."
Of colure it will never happen,
But still.. it is a mystery that some offspring of the same parents remain obdurately faithful to what they've been taught, and one wild child appears among them: the prodigal son.
It takes some courage, I think, to declare for independence.

About that dance,, Aztexan... I am unlikely to forget that you have asked, and in such a graceful way.
Thank you.
And don't let the blues get ya....
For while it is true and tragic that Hendrix and Stevie Ray, lives ended much to soon, will never again pleasure us with more of their dazzling sounds, still, think of how marvelous it was to have been around, and young, and infused with their electricity, while they were here.
For your entire life, those sounds will be in your head: they are an indelible part of the soundtrack of your life.
I didn't cry, but I do remember feeling a jolt at the sound of those guitars tuning up.
And, by coincidence, before I turned to reply to yo ur post, I was listening to this:

What a privilege as well as a thrill to be able to hear it now, sone 30 years after it was recorded!
But Adele, has her charms as well.
And so does Schubert.
And by all means love, music, hope.

And this weekend is the 26th anniversary of his death.
My cousin saw Ted Nugent (in his pre-batshit crazy days) in Phoenix when SRV died and he said Ted played a sad, scorching version of The Sky is Crying with actual raindrops falling and said it was Stevie Ray.
Listen to Stevie Ray play Texas Flood. That solo.

https://youtu.be/31crA53Dgu0
I learned that this artist, Sia, has written hit songs for other recording artists. I like the beat and it's simplicity.

Another one of life''s mysteries, and a challenge to our pious homilies about the meaning and process of civilizing human beings.
Nugget: An artist, once up there with the best of his kind and his generation' Which is entirely different from being somebody you would want to marry your daughter.
Loving the guitar solo doesn't mean loving the guitarist.
I dunno... I hadn't listened to Nugent for a long time, until this morning.
The vocals are off-putting: they don't really seem to match the stunning pyrotechnics of the guitar playing.
No matter: none of it matches Stevie Ray's "Texas Flood.."
That is certainly a wonder, and a pillar of American musical virtuosity in the late 20th Century... both in talent, in sensibility, and in just plain, uncomplicated beauty.
Thanks for reminding me, and I have to assume I am not alone here in feeling better for having listened to it this morning.

Both watching AND listening:
I wish I had enough room to have a hundred people see the wonderful films that were made available to show in my back yard, but sadly, 15 was the legal (and chair) limit.
I'm determined to do better next year... . because it has been so much fun, and the films (and their scores) were all received so well.
Last evening's film, the last of the year in the " Blum Garage Door Film Series" was from 1980, the lively and original "Diva" France's original "pops art" film crooks, motorcycle races, young love,, international intrigue, Paris... and the eye and ear popping coloratura.

Everyone seemed to both love it, especially the presence of the enthralling Wilhelmina, so beautiful of person, stunning of presence, captivating of voice:

Some how I missed this song. Siouxie Sioux and the Banshees were an original London punk band, wearing swastikas, safety pins and the worst outfits available at second hand shops in 1976.

Yet in 1991, they released this song and film clip, which I would say is almost perfect in both music and artistic merit. It even charted in the USA at 28#

Strong middle-eastern influence. Probably due to the Ottoman Empire reaching all the way to Spain. You can even hear it in French jazz. And oh so much in Eastern European music.

Did I ever tell you I had a Bulgarian girlfriend? She still harbours a distrust towards the Prussians and Ottomans.

Our relationship went something like this...

Music sustained some low blows this week, too.
So long too Leonard Cohen, Leon Russell, and yesterday, the iconic Black bluesman from the Mississippi Delta.... who happened to be White: Mose Allison.
Allison was not only a poet, pianist of note, a consummate performer of American jazz and blues, but possessed of wit, charm, looks and above all a sense of the absurdity of life that is the basis of all great humor.
Thus, Mose:

Siouxie and the Banshees also did a great remake of The Beatles "Dear Prudence."

I always liked the "New Wave" artists, The Cure, The Pixies, REM, Bauhaus, etc. I didn't start listening to them until I went off to the university. In high school it was hard rock and metal.

I like them too. Buddy Holly, Little Richard, Elvis, Jerry Lee Lewis, The Skyliners, all of them are great. I have a 50's channel on my satellite radio that I listen to a lot.

Right now, though, I'm going through a hard rock/metal phase. I just finshed with Alice In Chains, I just put Megadeath in. "Sweating Bullets, Wake Up Dead, Peace Sells....But Who's Buying??!?!?" are my favorite Megadeath tracks.

"Arabic Track Music video"

The sad thing is that I actually like Arabic singing and scales. David Byrne (Talking Heads) and Brian Eno also did, and used Arabic singing samples on their joint "art" albums in the very early 80's.

My Life in the Bush of Ghosts : Song "Regiment" 1981 Byrne & Eno.

When I was in Istanbul I asked the hotel receptionist, if the "call to prayers", being played on loud speakers was recorded. He gave me a weird look and said "No". I thought that was weird as I never hear anyone cough or hit a "bum note" when listening to the call to payers anywhere.

Sequel idea for Red Rider: Lunatic Mainstream. Inspired, uv course, by Trump, an openly demented prezidential candidate, winning the election.

It'll be eazy. They can take the old song:

I have a channel on my satellite radio called "First Wave." It plays 80's alternative. In succession on my way home from work it played this by Yazoo:

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=LIiyT67Sjbg

I've always liked this song, it's a really cool example of 80's synth pop.

They then played this:

I thought they bookended each other nicely.

Hmmm. Alison Moyet had (and has) a voice and knows how to use it. The Sex Pistols were a phenomenon of a sort. Given my limited ticket money at the time, not a difficult choice.

Saw the Gunners concert last night. What a monumental disappointment. The acoustics were terrible, they should sack their sound engineer. It was all bass & treble with no mid-range. Axl's grown four extra chins and lost his voice. The band was the opposite of tight, all over the shop. They only played five songs from their old albums, and the rest of their new stuff is just an indecipherable mash of thrash crap.
This being was produced using the same process as other beings, and therefore, may contain traces of nuts.
