Who Knows USA History? eg: Who is FIRST US Presnedent?

Postby bobbo_the_Pragmatist » Mon Jul 25, 2016 7:16 pm

and we all know it was George Washington.

but....to those in the know...there was a first "failed" USA gubment under Articles of Confederation and FIRST Presnedent John Hancock (sic-dependents on what or who you count).

Its a time period not talked about, taught, or much remembered. I think it should be as why strong Federalism was shown not to work. Kinda like the EU today? You don't have strong independent states and a national entity at the same time.

I've always found it curious we skipped the first gubment of the USA as if it never existed. Lesson to be learned..... never even presented.

The Articles of Confederation was the first experiment, and point up nicely what needed to be fixed. All hail President What's-His-Face.

As someone who was educated in Texas, I learned Jesus was elected first president after he and Moses wrote the constitution. That's why they included assault rifles in the 2nd amendment: we have no idea what it's like to fight off dinosaurs. They did.

Funny, but the real history of Texas suggests they wanted guns to shoot Mexicans. Remember the Alamo! The early Texans would have elected Trump, but he wasn't born yet.Build a border wall!

BTW, Some Mexicans are in favor of a border wall, but they want to build it on their southern border. Too many Guatemalans and Hondurans crossing Mexico to get to the US. When they get deported, they end up in Mexico and increase the crime rate there.

PA--interesting side track there. Incredibly sad the Guatemalan situation. FACT IS: "USA sent the worst criminals possible to Guatemala directly from USA jails." //// Not quite Trumpian in construct as they were all illegal aliens FROM Guatemala but it highlights how complicated/BS such issues can get. Only in retrospect who it appear likely that such a continuous stream of drug related gang members back to a 3rd World Country would set up ripples to be felt around the world.

Criminals in Jail. Perhaps that is where they should stay? No jails in Guatemela? Then we'll keep them in Jail here in USA. Seems like the least we could do....in our failure to legalize ALL drugs. All Drugs: for the same reasons that booze, cigarettes, and gambling are legal(ized).

Mexicans, Dinosaurs

Potayto, potato
I've come up with a set of rules that describe our reactions to technologies:
Spoiler:
1. Anything that is in the world when you’re born is normal and ordinary and is just a natural part of the way the world works.
2. Anything that's invented between when you’re fifteen and thirty-five is new and exciting and revolutionary and you can probably get a career in it.
3. Anything invented after you're thirty-five is against the natural order of things.

Early Texans weren't all that brave. Yes, they fought for their independence from Mexico. Then, less than 9 years later, surrendered their independence to the USA. It's never too late to correct that mistake. Secede! Texit! And please take Arizona with you.

First, any given 10 year old Texas girl from the 1830s could kick trump's ass. Mine too, probably.
Second, I used to entertain the notion of secession. Not anymore. I wouldn't fit in with many of those who scream loudly for it. We share many of the same sentiments but I don't look like them and I know how they really are so {!#%@} them. The U stands for United. We could interchange the S to mean States or Stupid, but we're in it together.

Obama?

'Cause, seriously, I'm already hearing the conspiracy theory. It goes, "If Trump is elected and he's as bad as Liberals claim he is, then they will think it's their duty to prevent him from taking the Presidency in any way they can, so Obama will declare martial law and attempt to permanently seize power."

The Continental Congress and the Whiskey Rebellion and maybe the Veterans REvolt each got one sentence...but I don't recall the Presidents ever being mentioned. Weak Federal gubment recognized as not a workable approach, leading to the Constitution.

course...my early grammar school where such things were taught were spent NOT in America. But as posted: I think some more emphasis on why the first form of gubment with weak Feds and weak President could STILL be given more emphasis...what with all the gubment hate that passes for political analysis these days.
