Scientific African

How is this for a positive step ?
Africans have always been under represented in science, despite having the numbers to be an important pool of talent. One problem is that African scientists have problems getting published in reputable and peer reviewed journals. Now there is a new journal specifically for African science. May it prove to be a stimulating force.

I hope this isn't "African science" along the same vein as "creation science". I seem to recall some problems with students in Africa rejecting "white science" (y'know, like gravity and {!#%@}) because it was racist (or didn't encompass "black worldviews" or something).

Ah, here it is: https://whyevolutionistrue.wordpress.co ... knowledge/
...“Western science must fall” and be “scratched out” because “Western knowledge is totalizing.” The hashtag #ScienceMustFall is apparently a going thing in South Africa.

The one student speaking demands a new science that incorporates the protestors’ own “separate knowledge”. But what is that “separate knowledge”? She mentions only one phenomenon that she credulously accepts: one group believes that you can send lightning to strike someone through black magic....
Ah. Joyous.

Nope.

This is real science. Africa has genuine scientists carrying out research according to high standards of rigor. The need a place to publish, though, since many research areas of intense interest in Africa are of little interest to westerners.
