SpaceX Falcon Heavy Test Flight Today

Postby Centaur » Tue Feb 06, 2018 5:09 pm

The huge SpaceX Falcon Heavy rocket will be launched for the first time today in a test mission. If successful it will carry Elon Musk's older model Tesla Roadster into orbit around the Sun. Then all three of its core rockets will attempt to land on Earth or a barge. Below is a preview animation of the event.

The actual launch can be viewed on the SpaceX website at 12:30 p.m. CST: http://www.spacex.com/

Loved that! Over fifty years watching spaceships launched and it never gets old.

Musk, for his part, pegged the chances of success at only 50/50, where “success” was defined as the rocket merely flying high enough to clear the launch pad before exploding.

Gee, where can I buy a ticket?

I saw it on CNN... impressive, but to launch a scrap metal car? What a waste - particularly since Trump, with the right amount of explanation on the publicity to be obtained, would have gladly taken its place. Maybe next time?

The third booster ran out of fuel before it could get down onto the sea platform. Bloody near, though! A 66% recovery rate isn't bad at all.

NASA routinely uses "dummy loads" when they're testing a new rocket. Musk just has a little more class.

We could feed a universe if deadheads like you got off their arses and actually did something useful. What you don't seem to realise is that it wasn't public money in the first place. That's why its called SpaceX, see, rather than NASA.
