Cats and rats

Post by Lance Kennedy » Thu Oct 11, 2018 9:27 pm

Reference, New Scientist, 6 October 2018, page 15

If turns out that cats are lousy at catching rats. Researchers studying a rat colony before and after feral cats moved into the zone, found that rats simply hid more. So when cats were around, the rats were less seen by people, making people prone to thinking the cats had reduced the rat population. But not so. The only cats that managed to kill rats had attacked specimens that were sick from poison.

Cats are good at killing mice but rats are too big and dangerous to be attacked.

That's why rat terriers were invented in the 1820s.

Rats… are the next Godzilla for Tokyo. We need snakes – lots of them.

I don`t think gorillas freezing to death come winter will be acceptable - as the comments showed, we have folks who are sympathetic to the rats plight. How about an adopt-a-rat program instead?

Typical mixed bag of Hoosiers. The stupid sounding ones are in the majority, of course.
